What I'd ask, as I hear he claims to be a veteran, is what part of "Protect and Defend the Constitution" from your Oath, do you not understand? And he's working hard every single day for all of you. Just ask him.
How much lower do you think they would go?While they are at it... why not build a bridge from Lusby over to the Eastern Shore?
Could you imagine the massive shift in housing market prices on both sides?!
I had some unrelated dealings with the head of the Maryland bridge authority some time back and that's a big part of it, road improvements and widening to handle increased traffic volume. As soon as the NIMBY folks hear about a proposed location they start showing up at meetings with pitch forks.Imagine the increased traffic to get across the bay coming through Calvert. We would get all the Northern VA traffic passing through.
Typically that same people who cry and complain about so many "foreigners" moving in to their county yet, don't have a problem with the increased home and property values associated with the increased demand. Hypocrites! As soon as the NIMBY folks hear about a proposed location they start showing up at meetings with pitch forks.
Louie Goldstien owned vast properties on both sides of the Bay and was pushing this project. He also was pushing a ferry from Reedville VA to the Eastern Shore. It resulted in MDOT coming over and requiring that Northumberland County VA install a traffic light in Callao VA (some 15 miles from Reedville VA) in their only intersection because "traffic density exceeded 6 vehicles in 30 minutes" and "delays would ensue without proper traffic regulation". As a result that county got its very first traffic light. That's correct. Which is why it always gets thrown out first in the decennial studies about a new Bay bridge. The last study was just completed in the last year or so and determined the best place for a new crossing is...................................right where the current bridges are now.
And it's just not the cost for crossing the marshes (keeping in mind that the solid land that was supposed to be the eastern terminus of the bridge is now marsh where forty years ago it wasn't) but upgrading RTEs 2, 4 and 235 to handle the traffic.
Extra points if anyone can name who owned a lot, if not most or all, of the land on both sides of the Bay where a southern bridge would go.
I have his quote printed out and hung up at my desk at work. Reminds me that I don't live in the DC area anymore and after 1:30pm Monday-Friday, I get to go back home far far away from the heckhole of DC.Bless y'all real good!
What a cool story. Thanks for sharing it!That's the guy...Met him in 88 when I moved to PF. I was gassing up in downtown PF and a town car pulled up on the other side of the pump island and a guy popped out to gas it up. I had a golden retriever puppy with me and he was standing on the drivers seat with his head out the window watching me. Back door of the town car opens and out steps this old white haired guy, he walked over to my car and asked "That be your dog?". I laughed and said yes and knew at that point it was Louie. He said I haven't seen you before, are you new to the area? I said yes, I moved in a couple weeks ago off of XXXXX Road. He said 'oh you musta bought the XXXXXX place'..Laughed again and said you're right. He introduced himself and I told him I thought that was you and I told him my name. He gave me one of his coins with "Bless y'all real good' on it and left. 3 years later I ran into him again in Giant when it first opened. He saw me, came up and said hi, XXXXX, how you liking it down here in Calvert. Floored me that he remembered my name..Amazing guy.
