I really like the way a couple of the domestics look but I worry about long term quality. A girlfriend of mine has the Caddy crossover thing, it's an 04 with less miles on it than my car and the interior is falling apart. My mom has a 2010 Expedition (the top of the line one) and it's been back in for repairs (granted all of it under warranty) several times. The CTS is a little big for me but I do like them a good deal.
I priced out a Taurus SHO AWD out of curiosity and just had to say no thank you. I finished up around the 43-44k mark. I'll take an Infiniti for that kind of money.
Pixie, I think they stack up okay, but the only one I can speak of for sure is the LXs (300C/Charger), because I moderate an owners forum with over 10,000 members. mine (a 2006) with about 120,000 hard miles is holding up fine. A couple I know had a 2010 Jetta TDI, traded it after nine months, just a constant stream of issues. The new CTS is a great looking car, and the V is an amazing piece of performance for the money. Still far beyond the 40-50K range though.
Kom, have you priced any of the Infinitis lately? The one in the Tauruses size class starts at $47,700, and similarly equipped is closer to 54K. The G37, which is the next size class down, similarly equipped, that comes in at 45K also. Now, I think the T is a bit overpriced for the performance you get, but if that's the level you are happy with, that's okay. Yes, the I is a more refined, luxurious car. But is it 10,00 more so?
One other factor to consider is that when its time for service, running back and forth to the dealer can be a pain. If your like me and do your own stuff, not such a big deal, but that can be a factor.
