To Williamsburg?

I'm heading down to Williamsburg this Friday after work from Annapolis. I was trying to find a route fairly straight south, as Google is instructing me to pick up rt 95. I think the southern most bridge from MD to VA is 301, is that true? Are there any ferry services across the potomac further south?

No ferry service across the Potomac east of the 301 bridge.

Personally, I'd take 301 to 17 and Yorktown, then Colonial Parkway to Williamsburg

I'd stick to 301 to 95 to 295 to 64. Only took me 2 hours and 50 minutes last Saturday. :yay:
We go a number of times a year (season passes for Busch Gardens).
Either take 301 to 95 to 64 (I think that's the numbe, don't feel like looking it up) or 301 to 17 to the parkway like APS said.
95 to 64 is faster. 17 is prettier.

We're heading down on Saturday morning.

Go APS's way. I used to make this run all the time, and even if the highway is faster, it feels longer because of boredom:) But usually the times a wash, any given day either one could be a little faster. .

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to drive south right after work then take a break until traffic dies down a bit to cross over the 301 bridge. Thanks again!

In My Opinion
301 to 17 to 33 to 64.

Never, and I mean NEVER use 95 between DC and Richmond unless you have lost all control of your senses.

Or just want to freely travel at 85-90, safely covered from law enforcement by folks traveling 90-95:razz:

301 is going to be quite slow from about Brandywine at the 301 split with 5, especially if its around 4:30 to 6:30pm. Then busy through Waldorf, and LaPlata. Bridge could have a backup on Friday since its a 3 day weekend. But still proably 10 times better then going 95 and the WW Bridge.

That's the way I go. I avoid the Yorktown area at all costs. But watch your speed on 17 - they patrol it a lot heavier than they used to do and are quite sneaky with their radar traps.

Amen! :high5:

And thats shooting fish in a barrle, since detectors are illegal in VA. I know modern ones "hide", but if they see it, I think they can take it.

I also lived down in VaBch.years ago. I traveled 301-17-64 I like the scenery. There are a few spots were the cops hide out. I came through there Tuesday and the Md side of 301 between the bridge and 234 was heavy with state boys running radar with 2 chasers. Va side was hopping too. They love ruining holiday travelers weekends.

Virginia still has a State Police....something Maryland lost long ago.
