Today's Bridal Shop in Lexington Park

anyone have suggestions for places to look at bridesmaids dress? waldorf or lex park area?

The only bridal shop in Lexington Park area that I know of is Today's Bride. I would never go there to get alterations done...they lady almost ruined my Mom's wedding gown when she got remarried last year and both of our dresses had pet dander all over them. Thankfully when we returned to pick them up for the wedding, all the dander was gone.

As for Waldorf area, I would never go to David's Bridal. Their customer service was beyond unreasonable and ridiculous. They wouldn't allow us to look at gowns while waiting for someone to help us and while my Mom was in the dressing room (I was in there helping her), one of the employees just came walking in without knocking! Thankfully my Mom was covered up!

I'm getting married this year and I found my dress at Beautiful Bride in Waldorf. I have found them to be rude most of the time until I tried on my gown and found it to be 5 inches too short. Since then, they have been very helpful and kind to me. Btw, the lady who measured and ordered my dress no longer works there. My MOH and I went to the only bridal shop left in Prince Frederick (Carrington's) and we will never go there again either. The man that owns the shop and does everything himself was one of the most rudest people I've ever met. My MOH just had her third child in January and when we were there end of May, he kept asking about her size, made a comment that he would've thought she would've been smaller by now since she had her baby in January. I helped her zip up her skirt (we are doing separates for the BM's dresses) and when I came back out, he asked me if I could zip up her skirt all the way. I think my jaw literally dropped! After my MOH was done changing back into her clothes, we walked straight out of there.

Needless to say, me and my MOH have had quite the time with bridal shops in the tri-county area. It is my belief that anyone that works at a bridal shop needs to go to etiquette school and learn some manners and respect. I may be old fashioned but like someone else said, this is supposed to be one of the happiest times in a womans' life and it doesn't help when every bridal shop a bride goes to finds that everyone working there is rude and and disrespectful.

I wouldn't go to the one in San Souci for anything - too many horror stories.

My daughter used David's in Waldorf and didn't have any problems whatsoever - and she had people from other states ordering their dresses - no one commented to having any problems. . Did you make an appointment when you went to David's or just go in there on a whim? I know that most people make appointments when they go for fittings and such - that's what my daughter did and they were wonderful.

I guess they are nicer to the customers that make appointments. We did go there on a whim without knowing that we needed to make an appt (neither one of us knew that most bridal shops require/prefer appointments). Oh well...

Someone was telling me of a bridal shop in La Plata next to Casey Jones that was pretty nice. Or just go to David's.

What colors are you using again?

I have heard great things about that place as well.

Are people scared to drive though? If it were me I'd be hitting up all the speciality bridal stores in DC or VA not rinky dinky shops around here

Put yourself in their position. You have 10 bridezilla's scheduled to come in to pick out a dress. Each bride is there for at least one hour; some of them have no clue what they want, and others you just can't please. You have to keep your happy face on to get the sale, but inside you just want to rip their kidneys out through their tonsils. Then, once they select the dress, they want shoes, jewelry, etc. And they haven't even gotten to picking out bridesmaid dresses yet.

Then you have 10 other women who walk in and want the same service.

I get where you are coming from, but try to see it from their point of view as well.

If you're willing to pay more than $1,000 in DC or VA; that's the only difference I can think of.

I was trying to, but the minute that I saw a few employees walking around pointlessly and/or walk outside...that's when I turned to my mom (she was the bride that time) and quietly vented. I understand the employees who went outside probably were taking their break, but at the same time, when you have 50+ people in that place, that's not the time to be taking a break...I do try to see everything from everyone's point of view and I do know it's hard to please everyone, but still...

I see your point... However, that IS their job. If you can not handle the stress and indecisiveness of a bride you are in the wrong business!!

My daughter got her wedding dress from Annapolis Formals, the shop next to Talbots in Jennifer Sq across from the mall in Annapolis. Her dress the the wedding party fit PERFECT. The owner of the shop said that is a trick many bridal shops use to make more money. She was maid of honor the year before her wedding and all the girls had to have dresses altered, they bought them at the shop in Walforf. The woman in Annapolis said this is comman pratice many shops (not her's) use.

That is where I got mine. Also a perfect fit. Only alternation I needed was a bustle. It's a shame they closed (I believe the owner retired)

Beautiful Bride in that shopping center up in Waldorf where Circuit City is is bad also, all kinds of problems with our tuxedos and the bridesmaids dresses. A few of the jackets were too big, all the shirts were at least one size too big. My buddies never even came in, and when he went to pick it up, they tried telling him they had no record of him getting fitted or putting a deposit down (luckily he kept his recipt). The bride was absolutley furious...the bridesmaids dresses were all hosed up, cant really remember what was wrong with them, as I was chasing my tail trying to get the tux situation under control. But I would definitley not reccomend going there!

Beautiful Brides is a mess!! AVOID!

Suddenly I think I should get into the Bridal business. ... . Or at the very least, learn how to make alterations on wedding dresses...
I'm really nice! :D

I used David's in Glen Burnie (was living up there at the time) and didn't have any problems. In fact, I went right in (no appointment) and picked out my gown from the rack, tried it on, paid and left with it. No alterations needed and luckily I guess I'm a cookie cutter size.

I had someone make my bridesmaids dresses - if you know someone really talented, this is a really neat way to go. Just pick out the pattern/style of dress you want, the fabric and color (and typically the seamstress will help - I had no idea what type of fabric to get and she helped me out) and the dresses rocked! Plus she had 4 of them done in the time it would have taken a bridal shop to alter ONE. If I remember right, with the cost of the cheap pattern, fabric, actual labor for making the dresses, and alterations, it was still a TON cheaper than going to a 'business' with overpriced dresses, slow alterations, and rude salespeople.

Just throwing that out there if that's an opportunity for you. I had a friend who just got married a year ago, she had 3 bridesmaides (all her sisters - Catholic family ) and she went to either Bloomingdale or Nordstroms and picked out simple-ish gowns she liked there for them (it was an evening wedding too). Nothing really fancy, but they have some nice gowns that aren't too 'blingy' for bridesmaides dresses - and they each went and figured out the size they needed, combed a few stores within the state to find them (PA) and then had very minor alterations done (mostly hemming and a bit of take in at the tops) and they were BEAUTIFUL - gowns, alterations, AND shoes were well under $500 for the three of them.

Loving My Life...
So does anyone have an alterations place to recommend for a few bridemaids dresses?

Not sure if she still does this but she works from her home and she did/does alterations for the dry cleaner I use to work for years ago.. Never had any complaints:
