Toddlers drown in pond while babysitter naps

It's really sad, but there is no way that the babysitter could have known that the babies could get out of the house on their own. I have taken many naps while my children took theirs. It was just a freak accident. I feel very sorry for the parents, but I also feel extremely sorry for the babysitter. She is never going to forget this and it is going to haunt her for the rest of her life! It's just a very sad situation all around! JMHO. :frown:

That sucks. When I read a story like this I want to blame somebody, but I can't for this one unless there is more to the story. I feel for the babysitter - she'll never completely get over this.

What a tragedy.

I wonder if they got out the doggie door. Mine could fit through it at that age.

It's frightening how many everyday, mundane activities end up with people dying...though no fault of those who suffer. I hope the parents and babysitter can somehow get through this.

Yep. Stuff happens and you can't prevent every single death.

I'll bet $10 that every mother on here is thinking about how many times she put her kid down for a nap and then napped herself.

I"m still afraid to go to bed at night without checking that all of the doors are secure and BOTH kids are actually asleep.. I once had my ex boyfriend's son sneak out of the house on me at 6 am. He often did it and his father had even taken to pushing the kitchen table against the door... Somehow he managed to scale the TWO baby gates on the back stairs.

I do every chance that I get. But, I dead bolt my doors. I know my son's abilities.

I've done it.

I remember one time back when my oldest was about 2, I laid him down for a nap, and then crashed out in front of the television.

I woke up to a knock on the door from a neighborhood lady who told me she found him down near the pier at the end of the road.

That night I purchased deadbolts for both doors which required keys to get in and out.

Great, more stuff I get to add to my future worries about my now 5 1/2 month old baby girl. Daddy can't wait for his little girl to grow up and follow him around, I keep telling him be careful what you wish for! Just to enjoy now that you can lay her down and not worry about her getting into anything or chasing her around.

This story is so sad! I can only imagine the mother's anguish when she found out that she had lost both of her little ones. One would be horrible enough, two I just can't imagine! My prayers go out to her and her family, and the babysitter. That is something very heavy to have on a young girls shoulders for the rest of her life. :frown:

That sounds like a good idea....until you consider what might happen if there's a fire.
The keys to the doors are above the door where my almost 3 year old cannot reach them.

So if your house was on fire, he'd be trapped inside. :eyebrow:

Unbelievable! Some of the crap in here never ceases to amaze me. I understand that parents sometimes sleep while there kids sleep, but the baby sitter was being PAID to watch the kids! I don't know about anyone else on here, but I usually don't go to sleep while I'm at work. I do screw off alot but that's a different story. I hope the stupid baby sitter is eaten up with guilt for the rest of her life.
