LOL, I don't know if I want to answer that honestly or not.

Seriously though, almost all parents I know at some point or another take naps when their kids do, is it not their job to watch their kids too? And I am sure they care about their child more than some babysitter.

Yes it was the babysitter's job to watch the kids, but we don't know all the circumstances yet. Maybe the 18 year old was told by the parents after coming over early to watch the kids that she is allowed to take a nap once the kids go to sleep. It is not uncommon for a childs care giver to try and catch a little sleep at the sametime they do, that is all I am saying.

This story is so sad! I can only imagine the mother's anguish when she found out that she had lost both of her little ones. One would be horrible enough, two I just can't imagine! My prayers go out to her and her family, and the babysitter. That is something very heavy to have on a young girls shoulders for the rest of her life. :frown:

Toddlers drown in pond ... 06-01-2007 11:32 AM the little girls didn't have the same mother. read the article next time.

Thanks for the info.....just to let you know, I'm at work, so on breaks I really only skim quickly over the articles posted. Sorry I missed the part about them not being related. Doesn't change the fact that this is a very sad story.

I guess it all depends on the person. Even if the parents told me I could go to sleep, there is no way that I would do it. Knowing that someone was depending on me, I would watch their kids better than I watch my own.

This is another issue that pisses me off because I had a worthless lady watching my kids. I came to pick them up, the door was open and she was sound asleep on the couch. I walked in grabbed them and left. All hell broke loose after that, but I didn't care. She should have been awake watching them! If I came in and took them, anyone could have.

Do you and your wife stay up all night standing watch to guard your kids? Has there ever been a time where you both nodded off, maybe for just five minutes?

 I understand that parents are going to fall asleep, I know damn well that my kids are old enough to walk right out of the house. The babysitter was watching someone elses kids and should have been awake.

This is just a tragic situation all around. The article said the teen babysitter was a relative of the youngest girl and lived in the same house, the other was a neighbor's child. Something was overlooked to allow these 2 small children to be able to leave the house. I would never think it's ok for someone I left in charge of my child to go to sleep while watching them.
Everyone involved must be suffering horribly.

Don't be ridiculous. Smooth is the perfect parent and never sleeps or takes his eyes off his children for even one second. Ever-vigilant and always on guard.

cliff notes- toddler climbs in a dishwasher that automatically starts and traps him inside, killing him. 13 year brother found him after seeing his balnket laying on the floor by the washer.

It wasn't very responsible of the parents/babysitter to leave an unlocked dishwasher lying around the house like that.

How in the hell does an 18 month old get in a dishwasher and close the door behind himself:confused:
And lock it from the outside while he's inside? Don't all dishwashers have to be locked to start?
