Toe Nail Clip Issue

So the little girl has let us clip her toe nails several times. Hasn't even phased her in the past. This time though, she won't let us approach with the clippers. She screams and cries and twists and yanks and I'm afraid she's actually going to get hurt. Only got two nails clipped before giving up.

The thought was she's growing more hair around her toes and maybe the hair getting caught in the clipper was the problem. So the giant pulled out his electric beard trimmer, ran it across her toes (buzzzz buzzzz noise) little fuss and no problem. She still won't let us near her toes with the clippers. :drama:

Any ideas? Like I said, it's never been a problem in the past and I don't want it to continue to be a problem. Those little needles that pass for her toenails need to be clipped.

Does she try to nip? Lay her on her side, one person hold her and the other clip. You will just have to keep at it. Mine were fine...then got weirded out and now they're fine with just me..nobody has to hold. But I was firm with them and insistant.

Have you ever made her nail bleed?

What?!
If Roxy sees me coming at her with the clippers she runs. I have to trick her and be very quick about it.

Nip, no, but she squirms, twists, and cries - sounds like we are murdering her. Her body is going in fifty million directions all at once. I'm afraid that with her acting like that, we will hurt her.

Never made her nail bleed. Which is why we were thinking it may be the hair around her nails growing longer getting caught in the nail clippers. Which we trimmed up. Again, she had no problem with the trimmer, but flipped out again with the clippers.

I got the pedipaws thing and I have to say both dogs take it perfectly and no chance of bleeding,I'm tickled with it.

My Bubba :frown: used to be very uncomfortable with it. I started using a muzzle on him and laying him on his side. For whatever reason, the muzzle seemed to comfort him and he laid perfectly still.

She's testing you and you have to let her know that isn't going to work. Don't fuss at her too much, just be firm and tell her to "settle" or "stop" whatever your word is...and continue on.

My Beagle gives us such a fit ,I just take her to the vets for nail clipping...they have to muzzle her. But to me it"s worth the 12 or so $ not to go thru the hassel.
Have seen Pedipaws at Wal Mart and belive CVS.

Where did you pick it up at?

We got the pedipaws tonight at Kohls....it was by the kitchen stuff in an 'as seen on tv section'. DH used it on the labs nails and she took it well, it is like a little sander. The shepherd though didn't really want bothered with it, freaked her out a little.

Anybody use the Pedipaws on a cat yet? I have two that hate having their nails clipped and It's kind of a battle, I refuse to declaw though.
