Actually after the last class, I think it would be funny if you walked in with a neck brace, back brace, ankle splints and crutches... and for good measure... each class add one more splint or brace

It doesn't take long if you aren't careful. I've got a pretty thick folder from the chiropractor. Lets just say that when I went to rehab at 17, they asked what I wanted to fix; so I told them: They told me the list was too long :ohwell:

Pete, how long have you been training? What's your rank if you don't mind me asking? I'm suprised they try to pair people up according to size. IMO, size doesn't mean a whole lot and if anything, sparring people of different sizes helps tremendously.

I've been thinking about getting back into it, but I've forgotten so much I'd have to start from scratch.

They usually try to pair you up according to your belt rank. However, if Pete and a 6 year old are the same belt...it doesn't make sense for Pete to go against a 6 year old. They would then pair him with someone roughly his own size. My son is a higher belt but because he is so small he is usually paired with a smaller child. My daughter is a lower belt but because of her size she has sparred against higher belts.

:yeahthat: Besides it is fun to get some 12 year old blue belt who is all cool and scare the bejesus out of them with a scream and a lunge.

Oh yea and for the record, I did not punch that little kid a few weeks back. He bumped into my fist :ohwell:

Sure. My daughter was paired with a red stripe at the belt testing on Saturday. She really held her own with him. She has sparred with black belts several times (she is only a yellow belt going for her yellow stripe) and she loves sparring against the higher belts.

 Umm... I said size not age. Of course its ludicruous to put a small kid in the ring with a full-grown man. However, I wouldn't hesistate put a kid two kids/young teens 20-30 pounds apart in the ring or match a guy that 5'6" 140 LBs. with a guy that's 6', 220 LBs and a belt or two ahead. My old instructor did just that on a few occassions to prove a point.

I studied TKD for about 4 years, had a natural aptitude for it, taught for, and was on the "Demo Team" for the school I attended. I'm more than familiar with how things work: I was just asking for clarification. Thanks, though.

Good for her! :yay: You learn a lot that way. Becoming friends with them also allows you to learn things earlier than you normally would and gain more insight into what you're learning now.
