Top 7 Worst Dog Food Brands

When I switched Snoopy over to a grain free food, I noticed the difference in her coat in just a couple of weeks. The stains under her eyes went away, too. Definitely worth it to feed a better grade of food. I've read that feeding a dog the popular supermarket brands you listed is like giving your dog a constant diet of McDonalds.

My mother swears by Science Diet and her dogs always seem to live forever. She has one that is 21 (small dog) and a large dog that is 17.

My vet recommends it. Infact more than one has recommended Science Diet.

really???

why.... cuz they get a kick back on selling it... They make money doing that.
Yeah... and pet store owners get a profit from selling their high dollar bags of food too. And by keeping these more expensive foods in specialty stores and not on the open market makes for customers coming back... I know you have a valid point to make about dog foods, but I've always thought that to be a lame argument..

Yeah and wouldn't a Vet only make profit if you buy the dog food right from them?? I'm gonna go with Kwillia on this one....there are a ton of other arguments you could make.

yes and no.... they get a pretty penny for endorsing the food.

If they sold the food they would make more money as they will jack up the price. But just endorsing it they get paid for also...

for the love of god... i saw what when on behind the doors... :killingme

I trust him with my life.....and my dogs.

He has never guilted me to do anything... agrees with not vaccinating every year.

supported me when i did the raw diet, agrees with the grain free way to go.

less meds are better

bloodwork ONLY WHEN NEEDED!!!

Teeth cleanings ONLY IF NEEDED!!!!

never rapes me (or others I have sent to him) on prices

will speak to you on a normal level.. explains anything you ask

Animal Poor!
Before all this hype on dog food being this or that.. I have raised a 120 lbs black lab to the ripe old age of 13... a Chow to the ripe old age of 15, a stray Chessie/Golden mix to (we think) 11. All on regular dog food. No one had any issues.

Yet, that was before all this stuff was made in China and imported over here.

I switched my dry dog food and make their wet food myself now. I have a 90lb sheppard/collie mix pushing 12, a 77 lbs flat coat retriever pushing 13 (that has had addison's for the last 7 years), a 10 year old Border Collie, a 7 year old Cattahoula Dog, and a 5 year old (give or take) mastiff/pit mix.

so my point after all that, is it depends on the individual dog. What food they will eat or won't. I am not all about this diet or that for the dogs unless that is what they (the dogs) need.

:yay: I don't disagree. I've been to Pepper's Solomon's store and think very highly of it. I haven't been in a while, though, as my schedule changed in such a way that it's incredibly inconvenient to be in the area during their business hours. I struggle with conforming to convenience at times. I've even gotten samples from there, too, but I'm not on the emailing list. I'm on Clipper's emailing list and get some interesting information from them.

Mostly I mean the decision making process in general. Grain free or will it be too harsh? Raw food? Made in the US or China? Do dogs really NEED a $50/15lb bag of food or am I a sucker? Fortified? Dry or wet? Small breed, weight control, and/or old dog formula? Allergies? Are they even going to eat this? <-- which happened recently and was a real pain. This company had a recall a decade ago, is that still applicable against their reputation? This company used to be the best but was bought out by a huge conglomerate, can they be trusted or are they a recall waiting to happen?

Interesting site :yay:
