Tough love or ahole?

Randos are lighting him up because he didn't buy his kid another ice cream. I'm mentally berating him because he made his kid buy his own ice cream in the first place. And also because he didn't get it in a cup like a smart parent does with a young child.

Vrai vote: ahole

I think that’s kind of shitty.

In plenty of time that kid is going to learn some hard lessons.

No need to be completely dickish. Replace it and have him sit down to eat it so he can’t drop it.

I’m actually surprised the ice cream shop didn’t do it anyway.

I did similar with my then tween. I refused to buy her ripped jeans. So she bought her own. You can guess what happened next. Me > 😂

Initially I was going to say I would be the parent that wouldn't buy another - life is hard and you gotta learn - but then I realized I only had one child, a daughter, and she had me wrapped so I probably did buy her another....

my youngest is 19, and we play video games and watch old 70's TV shows .... she loves the Duke of Hazard

we have wonderful conversations about 1984, A Brave New World and The Great Gatsby

I took my daughter to work for two summers when her mother decided she was too old to go to a babysitter. She actually worked pretty well and loved to go to work because we had a couple of teenage boys working with us also. (I'm pretty sure the ladies on here understand why) Anyway I took the money she worked for and started a Roth IRA for her (Boy was she pissed at me) but I made it up somewhat by going back to school shopping with her and paying the bills. I checked her Roth IRA at the 1st of this year, she is going to have well over two million dollars at retirement if things go by the averages. (Not bad for being an ******* for a little while, I'll take it anytime) oh and by the way she has never put another dime in this particular account of eighteen years.

I probably would have bought them a new one because there was an impromptu lesson of kindness to be learned on top of the working hard for rewards already learned. Really though, the ice cream shop should have replaced it. If they had loaded the cone right and pushed the ice cream down enough it shouldn't have fallen off.

Oh jeebus - there’s always someone that has to come in and act all nice and screw up a good thread! No wonder there’s so much damn swearing in Maryland.

Being a father isn't an easy job and there are many lessons a dad can, will, and should teach his children over the years ... but using your young child to farm for engagement on Twitter is NOT one of those lessons.

And fathers who would do such a thing probably need to rethink their priorities and goals in a major way.

For example, take this Nick Huber guy who we wouldn't even know exists if he hadn't used his kid to get 22 million views on a single post:

Dude, there's plenty of time to teach your kid that and plenty of ways to teach him without humiliating him on social media for millions of views.

Hope the farmed engagement was worth it.

I probably would have let them cry a little first - so they at least FELT the pain of being an idiot - for a few minutes.

THEN get them another. Kids don't remember nuanced lessons. If I do nothing, they might learn don't bother to work hard for something. If I cave too quickly, they learn the opposite - that you get what you want EVEN if you're careless.

This is what, a five year old? Teenager - yeah, tough luck.
Little kid? Losing an ice cream is probably going to be the worst thing they'll face all month.

Damned glad to meet you
I would have said ask your mother. If she said NO, I would have said That heartless butch, c'mon kid, let's get you another ice cream.🍦

Couple of things I'm questioning....
He doesn't say MY kid...he says THIS kid....are we to just assume the kid is his?
How do we know the ice cream parlor didn't give this kid another ice cream? Because this guy says he didn't buy another?
And the more I read, the more it sounds like this guy is making money from the clicks & shares...

Me thinks this was all planned for the money he's going to make from the post...and it's probably not even his kid. Probably just a deceptive narrative....

My boss just won the "Most Ahole Dad" contest. Daughter (age 7) had brain surgery yesterday. As in, doctors went in and took portions of her brain out to try to stop her from having seizures. Not only did my boss work all day instead of being with his wife and daughter at the hospital, he never went after work either to visit with her. Unbelievable!! :burning:
