Toyota of Southern MD is CHEAP!!!!!!

It's all well and good that they gave a car away. Yippee for them. However, couldn't they come up with a car less than 13 years old?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the winner is immediately taxed based on the value of the vehicle to tag it and in turn must claim the value of the vehicle as income.... seems to me that this was a wise choice for a broke student.

If they were advertising a used car instead of a new car for the contest winner I have no problem with it. She looks very happy to receive it.

I don't understand how people who can't afford a used car plan to pay the taxes on winning, what I assume, is a new one.

you beat me to it.
I assume you meant "wasn't" a wise choice for the student.

Good point. Plus the expense of insuring a new car for a young driver.

She meant Is a wise choice; she has to fork over $ based on the value of the car for taxes AND report it as "income" on her taxes... a cheaper, used car will have a lower $ amount, thus costing her less $ output in taxes during registration and income taxes.

Oh Yippiee Skippee!! A 13 Year old car!!! Wonder how much work will have to go into it before it runs worth a damn? :lmao:

Hopefully they have already done the work and it runs fine.
Sounds to me like they put some thought into what was best for the winner in a sense of money out of the winner's pocket.

When you have nothing to drive, ANY car that moves should be considered a blessing.:yahoo:

:yeahthat: I agree they put a lot of thought into the prize. Besides, I drove my 13 year old car to work today and it ran just fine.

Right, the key word is HOPEFULLY!!! Hopefully there is a warranty. Hopefully, if they have problems, they can bring it back with no charge. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully!!!!

I envy her, she's probably getting 30+ miles to the gallon. No payment and if she needs repairs I'm sure it'll be fairly cheap.

Tires (all 4) for her car - $150-$200 "out the door".
Tire (yes just one) for my car - $175 "oh wait, you're gonna need 3 more".

:faint:

Tax value should be on what the dealer gave in trade in value on it, which means not a whole lot. I think it would have been better for them to give away a newer lower-end car than a 13 year old high end car. Say a 5 year old Corolla instead of a 13 year old Camry.
And yes, I agree a free car is a good car, regardless of age, so long as it is in good condition.
When I graduated from High School, a local car dealer (I think it was the Chevy dealer in Upper Marlboro) donated a car as a door prize to the post prom (or whatever the big event was) lock in to keep us from getting blitzed. Did they donate a new car? No. Did they donate a 13 year old car? No. Did they donate a high end car? No. Did they donate a good 3 year old car? Yes. The girl that won it drove it for 10 years after that. I want to say it was a Hundai, but very good chance I am wrong on the brand.
