'99 Chevy Silverado Vortec 350/Turbo 350 Trans.

Hoping to be able to get it fixed so I can sell the truck without winding up upside down.

TIA :buddies:

I have to ask, do you really think you will get that much more with a working trans ?
and that truck should have a 700R4 or 4L60E [700R4 with electronic lockup]

if you are mechanically inclined, you could do that yourself in a weekend with a buddy
just by a remand' and save the labor

Hmmm, upside down on a '99? I cant imagine that any trans repair (odds are good you are looking at closer to $1000 than $500) that will raise the value of a truck that old enough to justify it. If the fuel tank has to drop to change that transmission, it gets ugly real fast. GMs of that vintage have a big problem with corroded lines (brake and fuel) and disturbing them is not good.

I plan on taking the SRT-8 up to them maybe in January, enough people who I trust have vouched for them.

No, I don't think I'll get a whole lot for the truck to begin with, even if it does have a fully functional trans.. I never worked on the truck or looked at specs; it was Dad's; he did;so I just assumed (Yeah.....I know) it was a 350 trans.. I'm half tempted to put a sign in the windshield "First $500 takes it." Due to the mileage and the aforementioned, it's not worth a whole lot more'n that anyway.

I venture to say, the way the transmission slipped in Drive and the fact that Reverse didn't work at all the last time I drove it.....no, it probably won't move at all. As it sits now, it's a parts truck with four near-new tires and rocker panel corrosion; where most Chevy trucks start rusting first.
The engine runs and runs well; we could never find what was discharging the battery though. In addition to the tranny problem, that's the other less troublesome, yet bothersome issue. It's basically a project for somebody who has the time, money, patience etc. to do it, but even if by chance someone wanted to tackle said project, I'm not giving it away.

Stupid question..... is there any fluid in the tranny?

No.....not a stupid question. The stupid answers range from 'Uuummm...' to 'Eh, heh, heh, heh, heh.....No.....'

I'm half tempted to try some of that Lucas Oil Transmission Fix. Can't hurt now, right?

Edit: Then again, I may try simply changing the trans fluid. Again, what could it hurt if that doesn't work?
It's the going from driving/shifting with no problems, to suddenly ceasing to function at all, basically overnight, that has me flummoxed.

:yay:

x2

that was my 1st thought

Exact failure mode that sent the wifes 99 Blazer to the donation route. Started slipping, fluid change bought me 5K before it simply moved barely under it's own power.
