Tree Question

Throwing the deuces
Yes. Not healthy. But who knows. It could stand there for another 100 years or more. Just trying to be pro-active for the worst possible situation.

We had a tree that fell during a hurricane. It got stuck in the limbs of another tree. After many years, the limb that was holding it up finally gave way and the tree finished coming down. Missed our fence and shed by mere inches. When it fell, you could hear it from the house and our oldest thought for sure it was coming straight through his room.

Curious who quoted a price of $2000. You can pm me if you don't want to publicize. That seems a little steep.

My guess is Kelly's. We used them back after Irene when a hickory fell on our house from the woods. State Farm covered the claim, but said we had to remove all questionable trees before the next catastrophic event. They were not only extremely expensive, but damaged two healthy trees plus did not take down as dead as a doornail tree that we didn't notice. :faint: Any, that's all. Hank...don't use Kelly's!

Is he Licensed and Insured? I would make sure he is.
If something goes wrong and he isn't, guess who's gonna pay.. and that includes if he or one of his helpers gets hurt on your property.

Yeah, that.

I paid a professional tree-removal company to take down a few trees years ago. On the 2nd of four trees, a 12-inch 60-foot-tall oak, they finished the notch and were halfway thru the back cut when the trunk snapped. It was winter and the wood had apparently frozen solid, and wasn't flexible. So the tree went in a completely unexpected direction and clipped my front porch (barely missing my pregnant wife and son who were sitting opposite the expected path of the tree and under the porch roof). Fortunately the damage was minimal (a slightly bent gutter), but could easily have gone thru the roof or killed someone.

For any such work, I would want to know they can pay for unexpected damages. I've got another round of tree cutting looming, and you can bet they'll be licensed and insured.
