I don't see Isabel on there.

I don't see Isabel on there.
I've been through a couple of these "lesser" storms. I remember Camille dropped enough rain to fill up Rock Creek (Montgomery County) to the level that it moved the East West Highway bridge (six lanes) off its foundations.
Guess we are lucky that Va. and the Carolinas stick out further.
I'm getting my gear ready; just in case.

How is this "Breaking News"?
Tornados, POTUS being shot, stuff like that is breaking news. A tropical storm developing off of Africa is not breaking news. It'll be 2 - 3 weeks before this would have any impact on SoMD, if any. The track already looks like it won't see the US.
Not really breaking news but potentially noteworthy nonetheless. In the more recent forecasts, the probablity of it staying out to sea is lowering. There's no panic yet obviously but Bertha should be monitored.
You are right. I'll get some people right on it.

if it happens....make room cause I'm moving in with you guys
I was still living in NY when Gloria came thru. I had just sold my sailboat the week before, and the new owner didn't take it out of the water before the storm. Found it a day later on the rocks completely destroyed. That hurt...had a lot of fun on that boat.

Yeah, I was still living there too. Long Island got hit hard by Gloria. During the eye of the storm, we walked down to the beach and it was trashed - boats/pieces of boats, trees, street signs were all over the shore and the water was full of floating debri. We quickly went back home and hoped that our house would make it through part 2 of the storm. Luckily, it did. I'll never forget that day.
As for the sailboat, I feel bad for the guy who bought it from you but be glad it was no longer your problem! I know it still hurt to see it, though.
Ahhhh, I see now. It was taken on the island looking north. Thanks!Piney Point / St. Georges.

Just about every expert discredits the 200mph readings and writes them off.SHE WAS A MONSTER...still holds the record for sustained winds, in the USA.
I agree. It's just that I notice that the term "BREAKING NEWS" gets used pretty loosely in these forums. While the formation of a tropical storm should be monitored, it's not something we need to run for cover for, yet. If there's a tornado warning, an unexpected school closing, the NWS places us under a hurricane warning, a raod closing, or something else that warrents immediate attention, then "BREAKING NEWS" should be used to tell users the posting is something they should read right away. "BREAKING NEWS" is being used so much that I almost don't even bother looking any more. Sort of the "boy who cried wolf" feeling. Not really breaking news but potentially noteworthy nonetheless. In the more recent forecasts, the probablity of it staying out to sea is lowering. There's no panic yet obviously but Bertha should be monitored.
I've not been here long but aren't we a bit overdue for one? Only hurricane we ever left town on when we lived in VA Beach (2000-2004) was Isabel.
(and before anyone calls me a wuss, yes we left cause I was not about to ride out a hurricane with my now 8 yr old son and my now 11 yr old autistic son while my husband rode it out somewhere on a submarine)
I was only 4, but I remember every minute of Hurricane Andrew man![]()
