By the way the charges against Gaetz were for sexual misconduct and drug use.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he was never actually charged with anything. The investigations went nowhere and were dropped.

So DeSantis needs to appoint another Senator to replace Rubio. What if that Senator was Matt Gaetz? I'd rather see him as AG, but Senate isn't a bad deal.

If I were Trump I'd nominate all Democrats who are Senators or Congressmen in states with a Republican Governor. The Republican Governor puts in a Republican for their replacement, then Trump fires every one of them and puts in the people he really wanted. Now there's a BIG ASS majority in the House and Senate and the swamp rats are standing in the cheese line.

Nothing, because it was all bullshit and an extortion racket. If they had any proof I think it's safe to say they'd have charged him and McCarthy would have forced him out.

Gaetz as AG is my favorite nomination, and if he has an axe to grind.....I'm right behind you, pal.
It's actually my favorite pick too because it's thr one that really made the Lefties freak out right away and even some of the swampers on the Republican side! 🤣🤣

I was just wondering what would happen to him if he didn't get AG because he's resigned as Congressman.

I said above - DeSantis needs to appoint a Senator to take Rubio's place.

I say this as an observation and not an insult:

You're not a person who thinks outside the box.
I'm not insulted - I just don't agree. You need more than very strong ideology and a willingness to fight. I have seen WAY TOO MANY Mr. Smiths going to Washington and having their ass handed to them.

This is why I so often like to bring up the story of David and Goliath. Most people interpret the story as a kid who fought a veteran giant soldier with absolutely nothing more than his faith. He makes it clear before he steps out - he's killed bears and lions with his sling. And depending on what kind of sling he had in hand - it wasn't a kid with a slingshot and lucky aim - he was Indiana Jones with a GUN against a hotshot with a sword. I've seen demos of slingers burying stones into trees.

We use the parallel of faith overcoming - but it really wasn't a fair fight at all.

I have always admired Pete Hegseth - but being an outsider has not been enough for scores of ideologically strong persons. Washington eats them for breakfast. I did once vote for Perot - but in retrospect, he would have gotten eaten alive. We have had any number of governors get the seat - and got their asses handed to them - because they lacked the cunning to outfox their adversaries.

I think Trump is going to succeed MORE this time - he made the mistake of believing that everyone in Washington can be reasonable with a good enough deal. The only PROBLEM - is they just want different things. NOT SO. Most of them are power hungry and will absolutely cut off their nose to spite their face. He trusted a lot of the wrong people.

A LOT of states do not work this way. I was thinking this a while back when Leahy was getting up in age in Vermont - and Vermont surprisingly has a Republican governor. I can't recall, but I think Leahy had COVID and had he passed - it wouldn't have changed the Senate.

I know several states have a requirement that a replacement Senator MUST BE OF THE SAME PARTY as the outgoing Senator.

Pete's a decorated combat veteran. I don't think he's afraid of the cowardly suits.

And they are cowards. They talk a big game when they're preaching to the choir from the safety of their bubble, but if you even push back a little they curl up fetal and cry like colicky infants.

Trump didn't get eaten alive because he recognized them for what they are. They had to freaking send in assassins and even THEN they couldn't run him off.

In reply to an earlier comment, Gaetz resigned immediately because it will give DeSantis time to allow FL's replacement process to play out AND get the replacement seated in January.

I knpw that, but I wasn't talking about Rubio, only Gaetz.

I guess I worded it all wrong.

I wasn't wondering what happened to the ethics case - I get that it's done and over. I meant if he didn't get AG, and he's already resigned, then I wonder what HE will do at that point, having already resigned HoR. 🤷
But Cruz worked SO hard fighting all the Dem $$ to keep the seat he has. 🤔

I actually heard TWO pundits float that idea last night on 2 different shows I watched. DJT is obviously shaking things up -- and I don't disagree wit that! I didn't realize the ethics case against Gaetz was still open - and it effectively is dropped NOW, because he resigned from HoR. So, I wonder what happens if he doesn't get AG...
