Al Jazeera?! I thought forestool was the only person here who paid attention to them. I had to read the story elsewhere before I could believe it. Even still, I have two issues with the story.

First, the claim that they can not predict when or where it will hit is crap. All they have to do is plug the satellite's current position and vector into some relatively simple software and it will tell them with pretty good accuracy when and where the object will hit. Whoever released this story was holding back.

Second, I think the claim that secrets could be recovered is odd. The government knows the satellite will have to fall back to earth eventually, and it's not like they have to retrieve a disk from it. Any intelligence it collected should have been relayed directly home. After it crashes, it really shouldn't be anything more than a fancy pile of scrap metal.

But I'm not the expert...
