I was going to say, for me to spend 35 bucks on a buffet it better be amazing.
I can go to either casinos within a hour of me on the weekends and get the snow crab, steamed srimp, cow, oysters and vasts amounts of other eats for 25 bucks and they do a great job.
I haven't eaten at Vera's since Vera died. I never really was a big fan.

The food - and smell - in that place when Vera's was alive is legend. Vera's is where you went to have a drink after you ate, not for the meal itself. The best thing about Vera's back then was having Vera make an appearance. The food was definitely not a draw. :dead:

Anyway, a $50 buffet is going to be amazing; a $35 buffet will be merely decent. The reason casino buffets are cheap, yet amazing, is because they're subsidized by gambling. Food costs money, and then you have the shameful amount of waste that needs to be calculated in as well.

.

Despite how excellent the food is...Tall Timbers still charges only 10.95 a head for their brunch.

I think they make it up on the Bloody Marys though...

Meanwhile, the brunch at Tall Timbers continues to be the best around and....the new addition to their restaurant is really nice!

Tall Timbers added on?
We used to go there regularly many (25+) years ago for brunch & it was great. Glad to hear that its good again, I guess I need to check it out

edited to add: Sorry just saw your earlier remark that they enclosed the porch

Yeah, what happened? Wife and I went there about a week ago - but I can't put my finger on it.

Constantly running out of food and bad service is a pretty good start. Not sure how much longer they will stay open.

And did a beautiful job of it too. Repurposed a whole bunch of wooden boat parts to finish and decorate. I think the AC for that area is being installed any moment now.

Wow, its been a while since we've been to Tall Timbers, we will definitely have to check it out. Havent been to Vera's since we had my parents 50th anniversary there. The food was so-so, the drinks were great and Vera's appearance was a trip. Thats been several years ago, seems a shame because the location is beautiful.

It's only subsidized when you get a discount from gambling, The weekend seafood buffet you can't even get a senior discount I believe.
I'm not a gambler myself, my roommate is a poker player. She will always get a comped dinner and I will pay full price. A $35.00 dinner where I live is like going to Jerry's or better for a full meal. The casino is the nicest dinner in Anderson, IN.
And you have to also remember that this is in Central Indiana, not a upper income area.

It sounds great, I'll be in town in a few weeks for the child's graduation and drop the boat in the water. I'll try to take the kid.

Not discounted directly to you; subsidized by gambling profits so they can offer it at a cheaper price instead of what you (generic you) really cost them when you grab three plates of food, take a few nibbles, then throw it away.

Doesn't matter how low income the area is, casinos make money. People like to drop their money in that hole for whatever reason. That's why you can usually get a fairly fantastic buffet at the casino for a bargain price.

Did you demand your money back?

If not.... then you can expect it to happen over and over again. The whole "suck it up" or "it must have been on off day" attitude is the reason why these places charge big bucks and deliver garbage.

If more people held them accountable instead of victim blaming and/or just "letting it go" then the quality of service might go up around here!

I'd say 99.9 percent of the establishments in SOMD are like that. Why do you think there's such a frenzy every single time a chain opens up? Answer: consistently good food. Not great food, but good food.

Linda's is one of the few local places that is consistently good. So was Charlies (okay, maybe a cut above good). Not too many others.

we went to Vera's on Saturday and ordered from the menu, not a buffet and everything was ok but nothing to write home about. I had the soft shell crab sandwich for $15 and it was good but it had more batter than what I am used to. The crab dip appetizer seemed a little heavy on the sour cream and cheese and not a lot of crab meat. I may have to check out Tall Timbers soon, never been there before.
