We also used bleach in the water for disinfecting camping dishes when I was a GS and as a leader. We washed in hot soapy water and then camp dishes went into a drawstring "dunk bag", were dunked in the bleach water (a minute or something), and then in the rinse water (same). Hung them up on a line to dry.

No germies, no stomach aches, no food poisoning. :yay:
That method was still being used when my girl was in scouts. :yay:

Proper sanitation methods! :high5:

As a leader, I was also in the Service Unit Management. The "sections" that I managed were Program and "Safety-wise". You want to talk gestapo!?! I used to know Safety-wise from cover to cover. My copy was dog-eared and highlighted! Sometimes, parents were annoyed with me.

I have story! The Service Unit had a "bridging" ceremony for the Juniors Bridging up to Cadettes. There is a lot of planning that goes into those types of events. There was usually a picnic or something.

It was near some smaller body of water in the Va. Beach area, and I can't recall the area now. One of the bases, I think. Anyway, there were ( I think several) little bridges built over this area and the troops were going to use those for their ceremonies. I think there were 5 or 6 troops sharing these bridges, or what-have-you. It was overcast and the rules are - if there was even ONE flash of lightning - the event got post-poned, at least. But there were several flashes and my guidance from the council was to call it off.

I had a couple of parents who acted like complete a**holes! One FATHER yelled at me! Nice example he was showing. I invited him to call the Council and complain. I also reminded him that at least I wasn't overpaid.

I understood the reason they were upset, but I had no choice. :ohwell:
