You can also get these little Vonage USB Memory Stick size phones that you can carry with you and plug into any computer and you will have your phone. The software/etc is carried on the little stick, so all you need is the computer. It guess its like a mobile land line... Of course, your 911 won't be effective unless you update it for every location which takes 24 hours to update.
Now if the Navy could get their act together on high speed internet capability while underway I'd be set.

:killingme :killingme Good one. During my husband's time on submarines, email was a dirty word. Why? Cause having to explain to others why I couldn't email my husband while he was underway was painful at best.

Vonage is Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and converts the analog signal (voice) into a digital signal and passes it over the existing network via servers.

Comcast says their service is not VOIP because the use their existing fiber network instead of the internet.

A word of warning, all these systems require the use of a modem, which requires electricity to operate. In the event of a power outage (which we never have in Southern Maryland, right) you may be left without service. The Comcast modem has a battery back-up which is supposed to be good for eight hours.

This is true....

Vonage is CHEAP...Just rememeber you pay for what you get!! I HATE Vonage and will No longer be using them... Alot of times when Im on the p.c I cant use the phone, or when someone does call in they cant hear me... I just dont like it... My cousin Dana feels the same way about this company...
