You're a big a help as I am..

Good. So, answer me this, Mr. Know it All;

I need tires, oil change and just check the bike over. I want to let HD do it so I have an excuse to rent one of their bikes and check it out for a few days.

Is that stupid vs. having Twigg do it with their Yami certified mechs?

WELL, if you had that RT, I know someone fairly local to you that would do the tires for you.. You'd go online to SWMOTO tires, order your tires, and bring the bike to him. He'd teach you how to remove your tires from the bike, and he has the machine to switch out rubber, and balance. You'd save probably in the neighborhood of $300. (SEE you REALLY can't afford to NOT get the RT, think of ALL the money you'd save!!)

Oil changes are easy, and the MD drop off centers have Oil drums for used oil.

Take all of 20 minutes to do an oil and filter change, cost you all of $15.00, depending on if you have a wet or dry clutch.

ANYTHING done at a dealer costs you over $100 in labor per hour(true for both HD and BMW).. Puts DIY in a whole new light.

It IS going to Twigg or HD of Frederick.

So, Twigg certified mechs vs. HD guys on rather simple stuff? No big deal? I think I am answering my own question!

Stupid

HD mechs don't have metric wrenches and will use vise grips and cresent hammers on all your fastners

Good point.

Can you send that dollar to Twigg on my account?

BTW: What is a crescent hammer????

big adjustable wrench, good for beating on stuff and rounding off those pesky corners on a bolt head

Here is what I told one person, AFTER he took and passed the course. Go to Atlantic Cycle, sit on each and every bike that attracts you; go to Harley, do the same, go to Victory and do the same, and then Clinton Cycles the same. That way you can determine just what, size, style, that you like...then you go look! Start out with a used bike in great shape, mechanically, then negotiate price, and buy it, and register it, and ride!!! Lots of good deals out there, just have to look. By sitting on the bikes, balance them, move them fwd and aft, lean, and see if that bike fits yourself. I have been riding over 45 years, and still love it! Enjoy!

So, can I get an amen? Didn't that make you more ready, way more ready to ride on the street? Noobs, new to riding, period, going right to street, man, I know I could not have safely done it!!!

:buddies:
Riding the streets around here gets more dangerous everyday. Your head better be constantly moving and anticipating. These 4 wheelers will pull out in front of you in a heartbeat. They don't look and they don't think twice. And parents that are lousy drivers must be passing it on to their kids.

You just don't GET the whole ZEN of motorcyle onwership/ riding do you??

:killingme

That and with the BMW crowd, Tech days and doing work on your bike are social events almost as big and as important as the rides.

OK, so, I chose HD and I rented an FLHTK.

:tap:

What a ####ing tub of ####.

The tranny is awesome, way better than mine. Nice accessories. But, feels like a toy. I swear to god. Bad fit for me to begin with. I felt like Gulliver on the damn thing. Too upright for the suspension. My back hurts after 25 miles.
Solid rolling straight up and does turn well but, it's like it wants to be stable annnnnnnnnnddddddd thenturnright now. There's like a break point almost whereas my Strat is as stable as it gets but, wants to turn at the first hint of it in the road and come out the other side. The Limited seems like it would be just as happy to simply fall over in the curves.

And it feels weird coming to a stop like it is feather light if you are square but the instant you lean a bit it gets heavy, real quick. The strat is heavy the whole time so, no nasty surprise. Brakes are nothing short of tragic. It feels like it wants to wheelie. Just weird.

Oh well. Going back to swap for maybe a soft tail?

Isn't Zen the name of the guy with the wrenches? The one I am trying to support to save the entire economy???

 That's how I felt after being on the Wing, and then having to take an 883 to DMV for someone's test. I swear I felt like I was on a tricycle, knees in my chest, ....

 One of my pals, ultra classic, always refers to his bike as the 'scoot' and I got that feel; scooter.

Now, after going for another 50 miles, I have to take most of what I said back; I am getting used to the brakes and, as a rental, obviously, the fronts have never been used anyway  It does turn, very nicely, and the upright riding position isn't too bad. It's a nice bike. Rather under powered and does feel small to me but, all in all, a good, solid machine. Highway pegs would go a long ways towards this being a acceptable ride to me. Off to Deep Creek tonight then dawn patrol back to work early in the AM. (unlimited miles!)

Ok, 300 miles later, ####abunchafairing in this weather!!! Good lord. I've been riding without a windshield the last month or so and really enjoy it EXCEPT when in PA and lid-less; too much wind whistle on mine. :jameo:

Overall decent machine though still not my cup of tea.

Off to cop a softail classic for a day. Theirs is wrecked and I might, MIGHT get my hands on a brand new one as my new best friend Javier is begging sales for machines. HD Frederick is BOOKED every machine, every weekend through September and 50% mid week.

Adjustable windshield and a small(er) fairing sounds like the answer!

Adjustable windshield and a small(er) fairing sounds like the answer!

Roger that, my bike has a relatively small fairing, and the amazing difference it made when I got an adjustable bracket is just that. Now, mine does require me to loosen to thumbwheels and physically move the windshield, while bobs bike most likely uses rider probes and memory metal:drummer:, but the idea is the same:buddies:
