Water Park In Chesapeake Beach

bcp...I never smell chlorine at the chesapeake beach park but when I went to the one in Lusby it had a strong chlorine smell....ewe......

Does the county have standards for pools or are there universal standards?

In My Opinion
the county will usally shut a pool down if it gets to 1 part per million of Chlorine.
For a public pool, I would almost suggest 3 ppm.

dont tell, but I took a test kit to the water park once last year and I got a reading of right around 2 ppm.

Does that tell you how anal I am about where I swim???

In My Opinion
Let me add this to be fair.

at 4 ppm you might actually have a slight smell of chlorine, but the problem here is that enough chlorine in the pool and the water will actaully become very acid, and in order to keep the PH where it should be, you have to add a base, when you add the base you basically kill off the excess chlorine so you might as well keep the level under control to start with.

does that make any sense???

still, if you smell chlorine, you got pee.
by the way, those chemicals that turn the water red when someone pees is not reacting to the pee, it is reacting with the chloramines.

Im going to go back to being a total idiot now cause its more fun.
WAIT! Before you revert to an idiot.....Isn't the smell created when the insufficient chlorine only partially breaks down the sweat, frog corpse's, bacteria plus Pee? I always ASSumed the pee took much larger doses of chlorine to be sanitized but it wouldn't be the only contaminate to cause the stink.

When I was a kid we would always open the trap up to see what was inside at my friends pool (frogs, bugs, hair...) One day we lifted it and a dead slimy mouse was inside.

You have GOT to be kidding me! Way too much liability involved in that activity. No way in hell would I let my daycare provider take my kid to the waterpark.

How many kids? Ages? How many assistants do you have on staff to help supervise your charges while at the water park (park staff does NOT count). Do all the kids swim? Have a rider on your auto insurance for daycare business usage? Have signed permission slips from parents? Lawyer on retainer?

I think you forgot the bracket /b bracket at the end of your post. I assume the at the beginning is you trying to bold your post.

#1 I am not only a daycare provider but also a MOTHER and I know how to take care of kids, otherwise I wouldn't be in the business

#2 It is a 1, 2, 8, 9, 9, 10, 12, 13 year olds

#3 I have 1 assistant and AGAIN she is ALSO a mother

#4 YES the older ones KNOW how to swim, as a matter of fact I was the one who put them in and took them to swimming lessons

#5 YOU HAVE to have the coverage on your auto insurance to TRANSPORT when you have daycare

#6 What kind of IDIOT would I be NOT to have permission slips, along with medical releases, along with auth to apply sunscreen

I hope that answers ALL your questions

Ok, one more post than Im back to tard boy.

Amino Acids, and Nitrogens that are created by the other pollutants, frogs, sweat, etc.. will also create the chlorine smell. bacteria to a very small extent.
In a swimming pool, the biggest reason for the smell is Urine, because when it is introduced, it is introduced in a large quantity instead of a smaller trickle type quantity of the other pollutants.

in a pool the biggest factors would be sweat, Pee and hopefully not poo. I can only assume that a frog corpse would be spotted and removed rather quickly, and not cause much of an odor.

think about this, how much sweat do you think is really in a pool? not too many people sweat while swimming. I doubt many people poo in their shorts either.
Pee is the number one cause.

there is a whole chemical cycle that can be explained all the way to the release of gas from the surface. basically when the molecule reaches the surface and hits the air, the oxygen merges with it and allows for the H20 to fall back into the pool while the gas is released.

ok, back to tard boy.

oh oh...one more question please....If you smell the chlorine does that mean it's doing its job? or does it mean they need to add more chlorine?

90% of the time, adding more will get rid of the smell.

tell me thats not confusing.

they might also need to add a bit of stabilizer.
that should be around 30~50 ppm in a public pool.

Next time I go to a public pool and smell chlorine...I will not hesitate to ask them to test the water. I will then pass on my new found knowledge (thanks to bcp) because you know I always have to be right!

If a pool has adequate chlorine, as well as a constant source of urine (lots of kids) would the smell still be there? Or does it just happen when there isn't enough chlorine?

Example: You get the levels right at 11:59, then open the pool. The little piss factories jump in and do their thing. Even though you start correcting the levels, wouldn't you still get the smell?

It is nice. It is packed. Has something for all ages. It does have teens running around being rude. Had a 13 year old (+/-) in front of me to get on a slide once. Little kids are all around and he is cussing like a sailor. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him where his mom was. He said she wasn't at the park. I asked him if she would be proud of the way he was talking. He asked if I knew his mom. I said "yes" and I was going to call her when I got home. You should have seen his face. He didn't say another word. I never heard him cuss again (at least not while I was around). Oh...I didn't know the kid or his mom, but it had him thinking.

Maybe it was one of my step-sons.

Did he come home and ask if anyone had called?

 No.

However, the oldest did go with his mother last week and he ended up with a rash on his legs. We don't know where it came from. Maybe it was the water there.

I'm supposed to go on Wednesday...I'm starting to rethink the plans.

In My Opinion
I went last night (monday) with my daughter and a friend of hers.
Her friends 24 year old sister showed up in a bikini and I was basically of no value from that point on.

anyway, it seems that right after we got there and I was floating in the water,, I over heard somebody say that a child had let loose with a baby ruth bar in the the childrens area............................ the water between the two areas is shared.

I know Im a bad parent but,, I bailed, I got out of the water so fast that I think I ran over 3 kids and a fat lady.

what is wrong with people to let their kid take a dump in a public pool??????
