There was something on the news last week about the office overseeing the water restrictions in Loudon County getting calls left and right about neighbors automatic sprinklers coming on at 2 am.

Unfortunatly they can't cite people unless they are caught in the act.

So water your lawn if you want lush green lawn. Why does this neighbor having a green lawn bother you?

Maybe they are on a community well/ municipal water?

Drought= conserve water. If everyone used common sense we would not have to deal with enforced restrictions.

Last thing we want is to end up like communities down south that hardly have potable water left.

Don't you think that if running out of water was a danger, there would be manditory restrictions?

I think you're overreacting.

Go water your lawn. You'll feel better.

my lawn is green and lush - i don't water it, i have a good lawn maintenance contractor and they treat it with fertilizer early in the season and throughout. my neighbors swear i water it at night. i'm not that into my lawn to do all that

I water a portion of my back yard (about 500 ft.sq.) every night that I remember to turn on the sprinkler. I put down grass seed and have to water it. Put down the grass seed because there was no grass in the area and it's on a hillside. Grass to be erosion control. Figure a little water usage is better than the environmental damage caused by uncontrolled erosion into a wetlands area.

I don't water or fertilize my lawn, but if I was to choose one it would be watering. Are you aware of what fertilizer is doing to the bay?

A little water on the lawn to keep it green hurts nothing as long as the drought isn't bad enough to impose restrictions.

I'm from California, so this :jameo: over a couple of months without rain is a bit weird to me. I'm used to droughts meaning years of low water levels.

I feel for the farmers who are losing crops, but why would the rest of us even notice this? Does it really affect anyone?

Don't try to say this is a problem with over use of the aquifers - that is sheer volume of people drilling in, and has very little to do with the amount of rain we get here. The aquifers are filled by rain very far from here, so this dry spell is not the issue.

85 counties in Georgia are less than 4 weeks away from not having any water left in their reservoir. This is the same reservoir that feeds the water turbines that make electricity for a large number of cities. There is no end in sight for the drought. Many more states could end up being in trouble before spring comes back around.

Their green lawn doesn't bother me-It's their lack of responsibility to the envirorment. Any moron can turn on the hose and have a green lawn!!!! Most people realize there is a drought situation, have a conscience and do the right thing rather than being shallow. You will care when you can't rinse the shampoo out of your hair but your neighbors lawn is green!!!

Aren't there ways of reusing water used for other purposes for watering plants/ lawns?

Like used dishwater, water leftover from boiling pasta, etc?

What does that have to do with watering lawns in Southern Maryland?

If the water in Southern Maryland was coming from reservoirs or rivers, I might agree. If our aquifer wasn't the end of the line and our use actually affected someone downstream, I might agree.

Water conservation is an important environmental issue throughout most of the world, especially places where it can make a difference. Southern Maryland isn't one of those.

Our biggest threat is running our water systems dry. That is when conservation matters. What else would conservation do for us? How would it help the environment? Please, enlighten me.

It's just you. I don't judge folks by the color of their lawn.
