Calling all pit lovers... if you can foster - wonderful - if you want to adopt - AWESOME!!!

The little black and white is an owner surrender and can be euthanized at any time, he's 7 months old and already neutered (his name is Blue) - I'm waiting for more information...

This blue girl came in as a stray and when the owner came to reclaim her she didn't have the necessary $$ so she left her there, which means she can be euthanized at any time as well. Her name is Blue and is 8 months old - I'm waiting on more info on her as well.

As you can see by all the posts looking for foster homes, things are just getting worse everyday for the animals, more and more surrenders and more people loosing (?) their dogs. Sometimes it seems like we are fighting a battle that we can never win, but we have to keep trying. That's why I always come to you guys, even if you can't help maybe you know someone looking for one of the wonderful homeless animals. Sometimes our policies seen strict, but I can assure you that we are only trying to make sure these animals never wind up homeless again. Plus even though we have 'policies' we look at each application individually and review the policies at the same time.

Please, if you can help any of these dogs, or want to become a foster (you can tell us what type of dog you want to foster), contact us and if we have a dog that will fit, or find one that will fit, we will call you!

They are too beautiful to die :(

I wish I had 100 acres and lots of money. But I don't. One day.

We also took in this little dude the same day as the Mastiff pup. :otter: I will start a new thread on the both of them together.

I thought he looked a LOT like the cutie that you're fostering. Thank goodness for people like you!:buddies:

What would you say is the average foster time for a pit? Depends too much on stats like age, marking, or is there a pretty consistent average?

It's really hard to say. I have had some for foster's that I have had well over a year and they were fairly young when I got them. I have faith that it's just a matter of the right person meeting them at the right time and they will be adopted. The good thing is I can tell someone almost everything about the dog and what it has been exposed to and it's little quirks....

We have had some adults get adopted within weeks. Usually puppy puppies get adopted pretty quickly.

No matter what we say or how hard we work, there is still the misconception about pits, from people that have never met them. We had a lady come into Pepper's one day, petting one of our dogs and thinking how sweet it was until she found out it had pit in her... you'd have thought we said Pit VIPER as quick as she pulled her hand away and jerked her daughter out of harms way.... :cds:

When we pull pits from the shelters or take in owner surrenders, we try our very best to make sure they do not have agressive tendencies. I shouldn't have to say it, but we make SURE they are not people agressive, if it shows obvious dog agression, like wanting to take a bite of the tester dog from 10 feet away, we won't take it, too many people take their dogs walking and out in public to take that chance (some times a dog may develop it later as it ages or something else happens, but at that time, we will work with curbing, and controlling it and being very careful where it is placed), if it's cat agressive, we may go ahead and pull it, although finding homes without cats is getting harder to do every day....

Our group firmly believes that NOTHING SHOULD DIE JUST BECAUSE IT WAS BORN A CERTAIN BREED....

By the way, the beautiful blue pit that was also on the first post was euthanized as she was extremely dog agressive.

I'm curious why is that a reason to euthanize?

She was euthanized because SHE WAS A PIT - had she not been a pit, they would have offered her for adoption to the general public and she might have had a chance.

As it was, she was only available to rescue and since most rescues are so full and our foster home's have more than one dog, the risk of taking her was too great. Not too mention the odds of finding her a home are very slim. She HAD an owner who refused to pay the fines to bring her home.

I have dogs that are dog selective and I can deal with that although it is a pain at times, especially if I need someone to take care of dogs when I'm not around. But the occasions when I have had dog agressive dogs, it's a living nightmare when you have multi dogs around. (I have one like that now, who didn't start out that way ...)

lets be honest, if she wasn't extremly dog aggressive she would not have been put down. Extreme aggression in any dog would be a good enough reason, it probably had little to do with the breed.

It had everything to do with the breed. All pits at Tri county and other counties are PTS even if not aggressive if there is no rescue to pull them and no room at rescues to take them in. Foster homes are needed to save the one's with the potential of being a wonderful family pet for adoption.

:BS:

this dog was determined to be EXTREMELY DOG AGGRESSIVE if you believe krazdkat. In other words, it did not have the potential of being a wonderful family pet, it had the potential to KILL WONDERFUL FAMILY PETS. That is why it was put down.

Well aren't you a genius!

I believe all K_K has to say but back to the subject! It is not BS and no one argues the fact that it was PTS due to dog aggressiveness AND the fact it was a Pitt, therefore could NOT be adopted out from the shelter, breed reason. No rescue could or would take the chance of pulling him. There are many non aggressive Pitts that should be pulled instead!

You just love these pissing matches cause you're a flat out azz!

honesty.... She was killed because she was a pit available only to rescue - rescue wouldn't pull her due to her dog agression.

They try to place many dogs that do not get along with other dogs - her breed is the reason she had no other options other than rescue.

Do I agree with them adopting out dog agressive dogs? No, because they do not have the time or the manpower to assure that whomever adopts that dog has the ability to keep it away from other animals or the time and patience to work through it (which it can be worked with).

NEWSFLASH... Pits and pit mixes do NOT leave TriCounty Animal Shelter alive UNLESS rescue pulls them.

the aggression is the reason she was put down, not the breed. you can dance around it all you want, but that is the fact.

if she wasn't aggressive she would have been given up to a rescue.....
