I find that the simplest explanations are usually the best ones.vraiblonde said:But plausible, don't you think?
How many foreign stocks and bonds do you think American companies own?vraiblonde said:This is why I don't think it's a good idea to let foreign countries buy our stocks and bonds. Sure, it's good money but the risk to our economy is just too much, IMO. National debt doesn't disturb me too much - after all, how many of us own our homes and vehicles outright, not to mention pay our credit cards in full each month?
But it just doesn't seem like a good idea to allow foreign nations to own a piece of us.
And I find that there's always more to the story than what is initially presented. It seems odd that China all of a sudden would threaten the US with nukes. Yes, this Taiwan thing has been brewing for a long time BUT the timing of this statement can't be a coincidence.Goofing_Off said:I find that the simplest explanations are usually the best ones.
I have no idea, but I DO know that we're not trying to take over another country and I also know that we're not threatening anyone with nuclear war.Goofing_Off said:How many foreign stocks and bonds do you think American companies own?
Chinese representatives spout off all the time. Words don't scare me; concrete actions do.vraiblonde said:And I find that there's always more to the story than what is initially presented. And I'm curious what the UN thinks of one of their members threatening another of their members with destruction if said member stands in the way of them taking over another country?
Yes, well, by the time they take concrete action it will be too late.Goofing_Off said:Chinese representatives spout off all the time. Words don't scare me; concrete actions do.

In China? I would wager to say NONE. The Chinese Gov't doesn't allow foreign ownership of their stocks and bonds. I think they will allow US industry to "invest" (but only up to 5% ownership) in Chinese Companies. :shrug:Goofing_Off said:How many foreign stocks and bonds do you think American companies own?
That they not only ignored, but actively protested against.rack'm said:and the Demies will be whining that the GOP didn't do anything when all the signs where there.........that they of course ignored too.
Someone's read a lot of Tom Clancy novels.vraiblonde said:I think that's exactly what it is. And I'll tell you my conspiracy theory :
This has been planned for years and years, prior to the first Gulf War. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, China started getting bright ideas about world domination. So they coerced/paid Hussein to invade Kuwait to tie up US and allied military forces. But something happened and the Iraqis were sent packing too quickly. So China went to the UN and convinced them to let Saddam slide with the sanctions, thinking that at some point there would have to be a response from the US.
When Clinton got elected and didn't seem to care about Saddam too much, the Chinese resorted to paying terrorists to blow up US holdings both at home and abroad. Still no dice.
So China figured they'd pull out the big guns and recruited Osama bin Laden to send suicide bombers to take out various US landmarks, including the WTC and Pentagon. THAT got our attention, especially since John Wayne Bush was in office.
Unfortunately, Bush only went after Afghanistan instead of the whole Arab world, like he was supposed to. So information was funneled to intel agents to make them think Iraq was building WMD with which to attack the US. So Bush sent troops over there, tying up our military in a major way, and NOW the time is ripe for China to make its move.
It's interesting to note the role that Pakistan is playing in the War on Tara (We will help you...just not in any significant way. We are your friends...but we will harbor the terrorists you're looking for and lie to you about it.). It's also interesting that Pakistan happens to lie right between Afghanistan and China, kind of like a little breezeway.
Coincidence?
Iraq is a pimp. They never could have outfought the US. But I didn't know until this day that it was China all along.

Is that a Tom Clancy reference? I don't remember it if it is.vraiblonde said:I see you are valiantly trying to throw me off the scent, Mrs. Iselin.

Bet not many realize that China owns an enormous amount of US Treasury Bonds. What do you think that would do to our economy if they decided to "cash in"? Who needs a nuke or any serious firepower when they can just sit back and take over by devastating our economy if we don't "play nice"?

Bruzilla said:And today, after a good couple of years of keeping the saber rattling to a minimum, some PROC officials start spouting off about how they will use nuclear weapons if the US attacks the PROC following an invasion of Taiwan. Even more unusual is that the old party line was that the PROC would respond with nuclear weapons is attacked by nuclear weapons.
