I worked full time and took classes. I managed to make it but it was hard. It would be made much worse when she has to take care of the kids.

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone drinking on state money but everyone needs some relief.

Question: Who takes care of the kids when she's out drinking??

She's taking a few english and math courses.
I don't know that it's full time or what her grades are like.

If she's only taking 1 or 2 classes each semester, it's only part time. If her goal is to get her degree, she needs to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. I know a few people who have at least 3.5 GPAs and they're having difficulty finding jobs.

Also, there are so many Universities and Colleges that offer on-line classes, she could take her classes at home, be home with the kids and still work full time. I had classmates that were doing just that.

I have a friend in her 30's who quit her job a while back and now gets welfare.

She's a single mom with two children, doesn't get child support from either of the fathers, no disabilities, and recently started community college, bill footed by the state.

She has a cell phone and she has the internet and she goes out drinking and partying several times a week, all paid for by the state.

Is it wrong of me to think this is ludicrous?

I'm not trying to be judgemental but I am also a single mother of two and have always made it on my own with no help from the state.
I have never gotten welfare, I have always worked long hours and sometimes two jobs to make ends meet.

It's awkward when she asks me to go out and party with her.
Part of me doesn't want to go because I don't want to condone her partying on someones tax dollars.
The other part of me says what the hell, you're paying for it anyway.

I give her credit for trying to continue her education but I do not think that she should be getting all of this free from the state.

Are my feelings wrong? What do you think?

I think your friend is a POS... a lazy one at that. I am a single mom, not on welfare, I work fulltime plus I take college courses online since its more realistic for me. Oh and sometimes, I get out to the gym. For the women that are on welfare think its a easy way out and I think its a shame that a lot of states make it so easy for people to get away with abusing the system. I would rather my tax dollars go towards the school system to help out with books for children than same lazy welfare momma!!!!!

Well, she DIDN'T. So now what?

This is what our welfare system is *for* - to help people better their lives. It sounds to me like Jaded's friend is using her welfare check for what it's intended - going to school to better her job prospects so she can be self-supporting.

I have no problem with this and I think Jaded is just being a beyotch and should mind her own damn business.

True, but we were busting our asses over seas and received very little of those tax dollars. My ex wife pulled this same #### when me and her split. Her parents were multi millionaires and built the house her and my son lives in while she goes to school what I call partial part time and was collecting state aid. My son is well taken care of by my ex in-laws but it pisses me off that I am paying child support to her while she goes out and parties with my money and my son keeps telling me that he needs clothes among other things

You were also providing a great service to the country for that small paycheck that you get for what you do.

I have no problem paying taxes to support the military and their families. and to be honest, Im not supporting them, they EARN what they get.

I disagree. With two kids, she NEEDS a phone, and since a land line isn't a whole lot less expensive than a cell, she might as well have the cell.

And she needs the internet if she's taking classes. Shoot, my kids are in high school and they couldn't get their homework done without being able to get online to research.
