:yeahthat: I have 2 part time jobs, plus my full-time job.

With repect to the local police, most if not all are feeling the financial pinch so its no surprise many are sympathetic to their predicament but not to the point that their regarded as a special class of worker due special recognition and entitlments beyond the rest of us. If that were held to a standard within our sociaty then alot of people would be joining the military because of the pay. North Korea maybe but not here.

The pay aint bad if you are a 18 year old single guy living in the barracks. But if you are married and older, no way.

I have always believed that people who work in Public Safety are SEVERLY underpaid. Why should someone make millions a year for putting a ball in a basket, but those who put their lives on the line everyday to make this a better place to live can barely afford to buy a house, feed their families, etc. . ??? I have never undrstood that.

True. I don't like my commute to DC everyday, I do it for the money.
Not me. The heck with the huge pay difference between what I make in Silver Spring and what I could make in St. Mary's Co. I do it because I love the 55 mile drive that takes anywhere between 1 and 3 hours each way.

$40,000 a year aint peanuts. Still ,one problem is that we pay for their police academy training and other communities snatch them away from us, because they pay more. But then ,if they want to work in PG, I say help yourselves boys, enjoy the trash you deal with there. A lot of people work a lot harder for a lot less, and they dont get a free car to ride around in. They dont get imunity from traffic offenses nor the excitement and adrenalin rush of a fast chase.

The job has its good points and bad as do all jobs. I believe the opportunities for higher rank are fewer here than in many other places and that may have a bad affect on retaining the troops, but with overtime and a good opportunity to work security at local businesses all in all they have more pay and opportunities than many men in St. Mary's County do.

Now if I were them I would be working for better sick pay when injured and better treatment for disability retirement. The way St. Mary's treats officers injured or retired on disability is atrocious. Placing a line of duty injury on Workmen's Comp is BS.
