Every news outlet is freaking out about how coronavirus is a global pandemic that will kill us all....and yet fewer people have contracted it and died from it than contract and die from the normal flu that people get all the time.

Can someone explain this to me? The whole world is in such a hysterical tizzy that certainly it must be just me who isn't excited about this. Is 2000 deaths across the whole entire world population of 8 billion people really that catastrophic?

I honestly believe that this is manufactured hysteria designed to control us with fear. Someone talk me out of that and get me all ramped up about 2000 deaths globally. Explain to me why such a statistically insignificant number is cause for panic. Make me freak out.

Manufactured hysteria heightened by our press, and media..

You do see what it's doing to the stock marked?? Only thing they've tried that has actually worked.

Greetings:

Fake news. POTUS said last evening that the Democrat debates are responsible for market shocks.

POTUS is very successful business man, he is the only one capable of understanding the complex mawkets.

But one would not think that global finance barons are hysterical sheep who overreact at fake news manipulation. So something is causing the market flux and the media blatherers assure me it's because we're all going to die of coronavirus, or at least all the Chinese people will.

Roughly 27,000 Chinese people die each and every day - this statistic comes from the maffs of 10 million deaths per year. Am I to believe that 2000 deaths over a few months causes a mass panic? Or is even noticed?

After watching the market freak over every quarterly report that was 0.0002% under estimates or a 0.00003% interuption in oil exports from some minor player, I'm not surprised at this. It does however provide a good time to buy at beat-down prices. :sshrug:

It's all smoke and mirrors. We've even gotten in super duper contaminant masks that are selling like firecrackers on the 4th of July. A fool and his money...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Dr. Nancy Messonnier: “it’s not so much of a question of if this will happen in this country anymore but a question of when this will happen.” “We are asking the American public to prepare for the expectation that this might be bad,”

Not media hysteria, it is a CDC doctor saying this.

“The evolution of the outbreak and further development of transmission, these are of grave concern,” says Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) health emergencies program.

Science is telling us that it is not anything like the things we are used to seeing, like the flu as you mentioned.

Yes, Ebola and other virus are way scarier...but the "good" thing about those is that the virus kills the host super quickly. So the people can't move around and spread the virus.

14 Americans that caught the virus on a cruise ship did not even know they were sick! https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/...r-evacuation-quarantined-cruise-ship-n1137616

That has to be concerning when you can fly to so many places in one day.

There is a long incubation period, so you won't know you are a carrier for a long time after being exposed. For most healthy people, it might pass as a simple cold, etc. So you would go to church and infect a bunch of old people or kids...they won't be as lucky.

The coronavirus is like the cold in that no existing medicine will cure or prevent it. Appropriate care may alleviate some of the symptoms and medical care should be administered if symptoms worsen.

The best prevention for the moment is the sort of cleanliness habits you learned in kindergarten. Regularly wash your hands with warm water and soap. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

It's fear of an unknown. If a space alien came to earth and disintegrated 20 people, wouldn't you worry that everyone is now in jeopardy and take steps to remediate the situation? But in the meantime the whole planet is running around like chickens....

If you actually get the details, the people at risk are older, risk of death starts at like 80. Like any flu (virus), those with compromised immune systems and other health issues are the most at risk. Some people will get the virus and not get all the symptoms, they will be carriers, but not severely ill.

The market is reacting to China, more than the US or even the rest of the world. Disruptions in the supply chain there are the WORRY.
Don't forget, markets don't react to the past, they are looking at the future, hence they operate on fear, so they sell off those investments they believe are most at risk. This combined with slightly lower earnings than "anticipated" drives down stock prices. Good time to buy.

Just remember, the media, are in the business of selling commercial time, they are entertainers now, not journalists, but entertainers.
They will spread their message of doom and gloom, when we look back, and it was just a blip, they will have moved on to the next crisis.

They don't keep count of how many "wrongs" the score in this type of reporting.
Do you recall the run up to Desert Storm. The glorification of the Republican Guard and how the Iraq would extract a huge price.
How about Y2K. The world was going to collapse. Patients were going to die.

Yes, the most at risk will die, but the percent of the population that will be severely affected is very small.
