What do? Where go?

Impress a girl by taking her out to bars?! How exciting :ohwell: Not everyone drinks or wants to drink. A bar is a bar no matter were you go.

I agree with alot of the other postings though about Point Lookout, St. Mary's City, or walk around Solomon's Island. If you are willing to drive to almost Waldorf, The Samuel Mudd House is an interesting local historical place.

Matter of perspective, my dear.

Is a lighthouse just a lighthouse no matter where you go? A beach just a beach? Is the Dr. Mudd house all that different from Benedict Arnold's pad? St. Mary's city totally different than Jamestown?

Toot's, like Solomon's, St. Mary's City and, yes, Mudd's house, has a unique Southern Maryland flavor which is what I think the lad was asking for. As you pointed out, not everyone likes the same things. However, one thing a bar has over your suggestions is, A, their will be Southern Maryland people in there, not just Southern Maryland things and landmarks and B, there won't be any snooty tourist types who think a region is it's things instead of it's people.

And another thing, missy, while I'm on it. EVERY where I go, I find out more about the place and it's people over the length of three beers, chatting up bartenders and patrons and wait staff than I do in three days of guided tours.

The question was about showing her the spirit of southern MD. Since it's cold out, outdoor activities aren't that great right now. The only other thinks are to drink (bar suggestions) and get laid (bed suggestion). So if he wants to show her what SOMD is all about, there you go.

I was being facetious about the Brass Rail, but I do agree with Larry though that over the course of a few beers more can be learned regarding a locale and the people living there than just wandering aimlessly to tourist locations.

I understand what you are saying. I honestly when I travel prefer to try and find a local resturant over chain places if at all possible, esp. places like The Frying Pan, as you get alot of locals in a dumpy/dive place that is small and can talk to the person next to you.
I stay away from bars as they are not my thing, but I can understand why people like to go to them.

We've all heard of B&Bs (Bed and Breakfasts), right? The quiet little cottage place that a man takes his woman because it will be romantic and they can spend some quality time together. Every guy loves these places. :sarcasm: Ok they serve their purpose but it's not always what us guys enjoy.

What SoMD needs is a good B&B&B ("Bar, Bed and Breakfast"). That's what we used to call the decent hotels that had a good sized bar (which the locals would hang at) and had a restaurant also. The type of a place (all under one roof) where a guy can take a woman or meet a woman there, party it up hard at a lively bar, be able to get a room for the night to test out the bed springs, and have breakfast in the morning. You both get to party it up, drink, have some fun and don't have to drive until you've sobered up and had breakfast the next day.

 Making money is boring. SOMD is being dragged into the making money mode, and being raped by the influx from "up the road," and people just can't accept the place they've moved to without developing everything inot a POS. I've seen it before in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area. Want a lesson on what might happen here? Go visit there on a weekday. Bring a sidearm and extra mirrors. Drive on flats to safe places. Post guards at the restrooms. Stay away from fast food. Any white car will pull you over for no reason, and a little Nazi will pop out to pop you for anything he or she can imagine. Or you might get carjacked. Like that stuff? NO??? Keep it away from here and stop the developers of businesses we never needed before they arrived. :burning:

Have you considered taking her to a LAN party?

That's actually quite my style.
Would love to know where these are happening.
And who's setting these up.
And if it's anything more than just a close circle of friends in a basement.

The only one I know about and regularly attend is up north a bit.
