I was never an Elvis Costello fan, but he started growing on me after appearing with Roy Orbison and friends in "Black & White Night."

"Heroes" from the 1977 album of the same name. The titular song, I guess. I think I was still in the Navy at the time. It's funny how much of the music I listen to comes from the '60s and '70s - pre-Navy, and haze gray and underway. Of course I don't really remember the '80s, and the '90s mostly suck, so there's that.

I do listen to stuff from the '30s, and especially during the War Years of the '40s (incl. the American Songbook), and a fair amount of the '50s. Even occasionally songs from the '20s, but that's kind of sporadic.

Okay, last one tonight. From '79, I believe. Late '70s was actually when I started getting into Outlaw Country - Waylon, Willie, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, Asleep at the Wheel (I have all their albums), Ray Wylie Hubbard, Leon Russell, J.J. Cale, Emmy Lou Harris, and a crap-load of others I can't bring to mind, right now.

It was a pretty easy transition, since I was already into (among other genres) what you might call Southern Rock.

But, some songs were so ubiquitous that even if you didn't listen to a specific genre, you couldn't help but hear them if the radio was on.

Funny, I see alot of shorts on youtube titled 'No. 1 hits from 19xx' I typically remember all of them from the late 50s through the mid 80s, after that, I mostly don't have a clue. Loved MTV until they got stupid, but pretty much stopped listening to pop radio music stations in the mid 80s and listened to country or talk radio.

I've been listening to SiriusXM for, well, since before it merged.

Occasionally, I'd listen to Bonehead and Blather when we first moved here, but that was over 20 years ago. I think it was 2005 I got another car that had satellite capabilities when that wasn't standard (it was a 2002 Mini) on a lot of cars. I had it in California, but I forget which car it was.

Okay, I lied. One more. I ran across this group...I can't remember how long ago. Stumbled across them again tonight.
