Haven't heard this one in a hot minute. From 1972, the title song from "The World is a Ghetto," by War. I was hooked. My next door neighbor had the album, and we'd play this, J. Geils, and lots of other great stuff, while sitting out under the stars, imbibing in all kinds of groovy things. Great times.

This is the version I am most familiar with, by the band Skylark. From wikipedia:

"Wildflower" is a song written by Doug Edwards and Dave Richardson in 1972. First performed by the Canadian band Skylark, it has been covered by many artists and more recently has been sampled in a number of hip hop songs.

Doug Edwards was a member of Skylark, and Dave Richardson was a friend of band member and organizer David Foster. Edwards composed "Wildflower" after reading a poem by Richardson; the song was included on the band's demo tape.

This version came up on Pandora a few minutes ago. Notice the racist BS, even in 1973. They can't just get up and sing, and give credit to the original band or the singer.

Still, it's a good version. The O'Jays.

Big Walter "Shakey" Horton, "Gettin' Out of Town," from the album "Can't Keep Lovin' You."

I had a harder time that usual trying to find anything about this song, though I did find the tabs to it. Supposedly, it was first released in 1989, which is way later than I would have thought. Which is weird, because the album was released in 1984.
