Evolution of a song...

From this...

This just popped up on Pandora. I really like it, even though I don't remember the group. You don't hear a lot of a cappella these days. The band is Prelude, and they've been around a while. A very nice version of Neil Young's "After the Goldrush."

Edit: they were around between 1973 and the 1990s some time. Not sure exactly.

Not my favorite version, but I like it nonetheless. Badfinger - "No Matter What"

Badfinger - "Baby Blue"

Badfinger - "Day after Day"

Paul McCartney (he was in a band before Wings) and Wings - "Band on the Run." I'd forgotten how good an album this is.

Love that late '60s, early '70s rock organ! Paul Revere and the Raiders. Interestingly, most people refer to the song as "Cherokee People," or "Cherokee Nation," but in fact, the full name is actually "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)." More stuff you didn't realize you didn't know.

Actually, it was first recorded in 1959 by Marvin Rainwater under the name "The Pale Face Indian." Check it out.

Cher's first known recording, produced by Phil Spector, billed as Bonnie Jo Mason.

Remember Paul Revere and the Raiders from the old tv show Where The Action Is. Dick Clark was the host.

Don't ask me how I got from Cher to Iron Butterfly (not posted) to Bonsoir Catin (Goodnight Ladies, or Goodnight Dolls), but here we are. I really like Kristi Guillory's (on squeezebox) voice on the second song "Alberta."

Ram Jam's one and only hit (as far as I know), Black Betty.

So anyway, a commenter on the above youtube posted a link to an earlier Leadbelly version of Black Betty. Not Leadbelly's only hit. Just sayin'.
