I've heard of and have listened to Red Nichols and his 5 Pennies over the years, but was never a big fan of this style of music. This is supposedly a non-commercial recording of "My Future Just Passed." Check out the description and the various comments by jazzgirl1920s.

The clarinet solos are by Benny Goodman, and they're excellent.

Imelda May singing her own composition, "Kentish Town Waltz." I'd not heard this one before, but I really like it.

This is a novelty song from 1922, which means I probably heard it on the Dr. Demento show back in the '70s, probably the Spike Jones version from 1923 or so.

This one is sung by Billy Murray, who wasn't the earliest to sing this song, even off Broadway. Eddie Cantor, who I have listened to over the years, first sang it on Broadway. I chose it because you get to see the stylus of the old Victrola and to hear it play, scratches and all. I've been fortunate enough to hear old records, some made of wax and nearly a half inch thick, played on the old record players, and they do sound exactly like what you hear. The fidelity of the sound is actually quite good when you think about how primitive it was.

I confess I've never heard of Captain Beyond; don't know anything about them. This came up on my Savoy Brown playlist, and I have to say, diggin' it so far (on the 2nd track). They call it progressive rock, but I don't know what that means.

"Sufficiently Breathless." (full album)

I'm realizing what a sheltered life I've lead, musically speaking. Another band I've never heard of; Status Quo with "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon." (full album) Excellent stuff.

Christine McVie was in a band called Chicken Shack before she was with Fleetwood Mac. Or maybe there was some overlap, because she didn't get much credit for her early work with FM. What credit she did have was as Christine Perfect for keyboard work, not vocals.

I guess this could have gone in the "Blue-eyed Blues" thread. I'm not sure how I feel about the album. I'm not diggin' the horns on some of the songs, and I could do without the...whatever it is they're doing between tracks. Christine does sing on at least one track (#3 "Get Like You Used to Be")

"O.K. Ken?"

Okay, so the way this happened was I was listening to Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" on youtube. One of the posters said "Hey check out my music," so I did. It was actually pretty good, and I replied to him, giving my feedback. While I was doing that, his song ended, and this one came up. It starts out a little slow, and it's a surprisingly long song (10 minutes plus) until you realize that they're live. I really like it; check it out.

"Turkish Reveille," by a band called Lynched.

Continuing the acoustic theme:

The late, great Richie Havens with the Van Morrison mega-hit (and album by the same name) "Tupelo Honey," and Bob Dylan's "Just Like a Woman."
