I obtained an official certificate from the courthouse in the county we were married a few days BEFORE our ceremony. It was pre-printed with our information (names, addresses, birthdates, birth places) and we'd already signed something else to obtain this, so there was no place for us (my husband and I) to sign on the official certificate.
My officiant signed the certificate with the date AND time of our ceremony, as well as all of his official information. So our marriage was official the moment our ceremony ended, but the certificate was filed a few days later. It still is listed in the court with the official ceremony date though, regardless of when it was filed.
