Do you raise the quail? Are the eggs fertilized? I've got a broody hen that would love to hatch out something.

Probably not snakes or turtles, but some kinda bird. I checked with the Amish for peacock eggs, he said he's never found where she lays them. Peahens will not set on a clutch of eggs as a general rule.

My sis and bro-in-law raise the quail. I'll see if they can bring some fertilized eggs when they come visit again...

I didn't catch their names. :sshrug:
Gilligan...(imagine that I'm saying that in an exasperated tone of voice)...I haven't heard that bird in lots of years and it's one of those things that I really want to hear again, kinda like I'd like to see lightning bugs again. You're harshing my trip down memory lane vibe this morning.

:huggy:

I dunno exactly what brand they are. My sis and bro-in-law raise them for the meat and end up with lots of excess eggs. I do know they sure do taste good when they come out of the broiler. ;-)

OH GOD, now I'm horrified. Bob white quails are the ones that have a call that sounds like it's saying bob white. I'm sure you must have heard that when you were growing up - you've lived in all the right places for it. They're supposedly still here in Southern Maryland but I don't know where - I NEVER hear them.

Yes, there were many quail (and pheasant) inhabiting the dense fencerows and unmowed fields at our farm in Howard county and those that surrounded it. It was all very rural back then. I've seen a few pheasant in St. Mary's over the years but nary a quail. And, NO, it's not because we ate them all.
