What's going on at GMHS

None of the DC or Baltimore stations has a reporting presence down here. When they got word of the shooting the first thing they did was to Google where that backward place is. For news folk in DC, we are basically Alabama.

DC stations were there. I guess it took them an hour and a half to make it down. I saw reports from them later in the morning. On the 6:00 Fox 5 coverage a reporter was at the Rollins home, no one was home. He talked to a neighbor.

Can you imagine that?

It's bad enough that your kid went to school and shot someone and is now dead, but the media vultures are banging on your door as well.

I keep thinking about that interview that Dylan Klebold's mother did with Diane Sawyer and how it about broke my heart to listen to her talk about it.

The only time they show up down here is if more than 3 or 4 get killed at a time or if something really spectacular like the fairgrounds burns up. None of the stations has a permanent presence down here, a producer/reporter who goes around and reports the news on a regular basis. As a result, whenever we have something sufficiently gory happen, the DC and Baltimore stations look at us like some exotic animals.

Hey, if it bleeds, it leads -- even if you have to travel to get here.

Yes, it's sad all around. The shooter got what he bargained for, but still, he has parents, grandparents, maybe sisters and brothers.

The weather teams make it down here when we get the heaviest accumulations and it's day long coverage.

Yea, I know. They interrupt The Young and the Restless for that nonsense.

Topper Shutt in studio: "Let's go to the field reporter for the latest from the inner loop of the beltway".

Field Reporter.: "I'm on the inner loop of the beltway near FedEx Field and here, nothing is happening. There's some snow, there's some traffic, otherwise NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Let's throw it to other field reporter who is in southern MD where I'm certain: nothing is happening.

Other field reporter: Thank you, Agamemnon. Yes, nothing is happening let's go back to the hot pieces of ass in the studio.

Studio: So there you have it, nothing is happening.

Don't you be interrupting' my stories.

The cop didn't have to kill.

All the training I have had for utilizing deadly force has 3 basic rules:

1st Rule of Gun Fight Club: Don't get into one.
2nd Rule of Gun Fight Club: Only one side walks away
3rd Rule of Gun Fight Club: You are the one who walks away.

I have had to use deadly force only once, while on military duty.
I walked away.
