The plasma sets are based on plasma technology whereas the LCD tv's are based on LCD technology.

You sure you wanna do that?

With their new 50" HDTV model, Vizio says you get a 50-inch HDTV, a universal remote control, PIP, and excellent contrast for a modest $2,000. I say you get a TV with poor dark matter detailing, distracting false-contouring, a remote designed to operate a VCR, and a dysfunctional PIP system for only about $400 less than a first-tier product. If you like watching a superb picture, be sure to factor in the price of your disappointment. True, Vizio offers a 50" plasma TV for less than $2,000—but without any desirable added features, and with its mediocre picture quality, we don't think it's money especially well spent.

DLP pwnz!!!

I'd get an LCD before a Plasma anyday because LCD technology's been around a lot longer.

DLP has the best picture quality, but they're about as bulky as a regular CRT TV.

Well actually I have changed my mind to the LCD model because of the possible image burning from the plasma. I learned a lot from that site that Aps sent me to. But as far as the Vizio brand I have only seen good reviews on their 42" LCD with HDTV. So this may be the way I go. And really, for the price if nothing else, if it goes bad, it was a fairly inexpensive lesson learned. Thanks for your help guys! :huggy:

From what I can figure out, these are made by Samsung. They did get and 8.3 rating out of 10 from CNet. I will check into them. Thanks again! :howdy:

I went the LCD route and love it. I was reluctant about the plasma for the burn in potential, and it was also widely rumored when I was shopping around that after awhile the gasses leak. Not sure how valid that is today or not, but I am happy with LCD for sure. Good luck!

Another reason to go with LCD: screen glare. LCD's give off much less glare (from sunshine and lights) than plasmas do. If your tv is gong to be in a room that gets lots of sunlight...go with an LCD.
