Wheelies

Yesterday, on two seperate occasions, I saw motorcylists doing wheelies in busy traffic.

One was coming south on 235 near the Hollywood Fire Station, and, I mean this guy was almost perpendicular with the road for a good couple of hundred yards, at least.

The other one was going north on 5 toward Clinton and he was right beside me doing a wheelie for a brief moment before almost running into the car in front of him and swerving inbound ahead of me.

Is this becoming a trend or what?

I'm all for doing tricks, but do we really need this kind of display in such dangerous situations?

Think of it as a form of natural selection, one mistake and you're removed from the gene pool.
If you're inside a car, you have little to fear from a bike, maybe a dent and pay the extra buck at the car wash for the "under carriage" wash.
There was one last week where some rocket boy crossed the centerline on Demarr Rd. and ate a Chevy Blazer. Folks in the Chevy were freaked, but unharmed.

I saw the title and thought you were talking about those sneakers that have the wheels in them.

Rte. 210 between the beltway and Indian Head was paved just for these idiots, or so they think. It is their own personal 20-mile long dragstrip and I've had close calls with more than a few.

Once you know how to properly do a wheelie you can do them for very long distances. Then it turns into an endurance thing. A long wheely puts a lot of stain on your forarms.

I will admit that there are a lot of throttle jockys out there. If you really know what your are doing. It isn't that dangerous to do a wheely on 235. I can change lanes, speed up, and slow down all while maintaining a good wheelie.

I can't do a wheelie on my Ultra, the saddle bags grind on the pavement. :ohwell:
Once met a guy that worked on the MD State Police Harleys, saw his Ultra wheelie on East street in Annapolis during an ABATE helmet protest run :yikes:
