Where all the workers at?

I got turned down from hotel walk-ins because "they were full, no more room". After a bit of prodding, it was because they didn't have house keeping staff. Plenty of rooms, no one to clean them.

Nobody wants to clean hotel rooms for $10/hr when Arby's is hiring for $18/hr. At some point they'll have to start paying people what they're worth.

In Pigeon Forge last week, saw signs on a couple of businesses stating they were closed a certain day (every Wednesday for instance) because of staffing shortages. I can't figure out why people are not working.

A lot of those small business jobs were part time jobs for college students to make ends meet. Since none of them haven't had to pay on their student loans in almost 3 yrs they don't need the extra money. Now there are still those that are making their loan payments but that is likely a minority.

I can't figure this out. I thought unemployment ran out after a certain amount of time, then you had to get your ass back to work? We're coming up on 3 years. How are people still sitting at home collecting a check??
When I said "collecting a check" I did not mean the plus up from COVID. I meant those who are employed but are "teleworking" and not actually working. Yes... I know "the data" does not support this but, personally and professionally I have seen a LOT of people getting fired or quitting because they thought they could just sit at home and do little to nothing and get paid. I believe these people just job-hop from different work-from-home jobs and when the sheriff comes calling they bail.

Now would be a great time to put together a "work from home" scam. For the low low price of $1000 I'll tell you how you can make 6-figures from the comfort of your bed. Then send them a letter telling them to put together a work from home scam the way I did.

That is the best explanation I’ve heard yet

And out of the ones that were able to work, especially the work at home folks, how many put money towards paying those student loans? Any money that went towards your federal student loans during this pause went directly to the principal interest free.

(NerdWallet) — Payments are currently suspended, without interest, for most federal student loan borrowers through Aug. 31, 2022. This policy does not apply to private student loans.
Borrowers can still make payments to lower their debt during this period of suspended payments, called a forbearance. According to the latest federal data, a total of 500,000 borrowers (about 1.16% of all 42.9 million federal loan borrowers) continued making payments during the pause.
