I've asked around. Unless you've got friends in the local spanish-speaking community I'd say we're pretty much out of luck.

I know. That sauce is awesome. I've asked them, and all they tell me is it's a mayonnaised based sauce. well, that doesnt tell me much!

Last time I was there I asked the waiter "how is this made" and his reply was the "the cook" makes it.:smack:

Cracked me up. I love that sauce.:drool:

Have you noticed that the 'sauce' in the park is better than the sauce in Leonardtown? To me it is anyways. I thought they were run by the same pack of... restaurateurs.

That white sauce is the best. :yum: We asked our local restaurant for the recipe, but they wouldn't give it. :lol: It's definitely not queso blanco.

Yum Yum Sauce

I'd like to find a recipe for the Yum Yum sauce at Asahi. That stuff is the bee's knees.


Ingredients:

1 cup mayo
3 Tablespoon white sugar
3 Tablespoon rice vinegar
2 Tablespoon melted butter
3/4 teaspoon paprika
3/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Stir together well.

You have to use Miracle Whip

Here is the recipe that they used at Guadalajara's in VA Beach (a favorite Mex restuarant from when we lived there) for the white dip served with chips.


1 cup miracle whip
½ cup milk
½ tbsp chopped garlic
1 ½ tsp ground cumin
1 ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 ½ tsp dried oregano
2 tbsp sour cream

This is as close as I've been able to get to it.

Creamy Lime Dipping Sauce


1 container (6 ounces) vanilla fat-free yogurt


2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro


2 tablespoons lime juice


1 tablespoon minced jalapeño pepper*




Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in small bowl; mix well to combine.

No, that's some sort of peanut sauce. The yum yum sauce is the white stuff they pour in a dish for you at the habachi tables.

Do NOT attempt to use low fat or reduced calorie mayo, Miracle Whip, or cheap store brands - it changes the taste significantly!

Japanese Steakhouse White Sauce - Easy Recipe

1-1/4 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise *
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
dash cayenne pepper

Using a fork or a whisk, blend all ingredients together thoroughly until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to blend. Bring to room temperature before serving.

The sauce will NOT taste right if you don't let it sit overnight. And please don't try to substitute ketchup for the tomato paste! The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency.

* Hellmann's is called "Best Foods" west of the Rockie Mountains. Use other mayos at your peril - many cheap brands make the sauce taste too much like mayo.

Ok, I find this rather funny.... :lol: If this is "genuine oriental" cuisine, I'm not so sure they had real Hellmann's mayo to make this recipe originally... Not saying that this isn't what they use now, just can't image this being genuine original Oriental. Def an American adaptation....

Understood... I stand by my comment whether it's Hellmann's or Best Food.

Which is older; Yum Yum Sauce or Hellmann's/Best Foods mayo? The recipe just sounds like something right out of the Favorite Brand Names cookbook.
