Yum Yum Sauce Recipe:
Do NOT attempt to use low fat or reduced calorie mayo, Miracle Whip, or cheap store brands - it changes the taste significantly!

Japanese Steakhouse White Sauce - Easy Recipe
1-1/4 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise *
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
dash cayenne pepper
Using a fork or a whisk, blend all ingredients together thoroughly until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to blend. Bring to room temperature before serving.
The sauce will NOT taste right if you don't let it sit overnight. And please don't try to substitute ketchup for the tomato paste! The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency.
* Hellmann's is called "Best Foods" west of the Rockie Mountains. Use other mayos at your peril - many cheap brands make the sauce taste too much like mayo.
Japan
Japanese mayonnaise.
Japanese mayonnaise is typically made with apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar and a small amount of MSG, which gives it a different flavor profile from mayonnaise made from distilled vinegar. It is most often sold in soft plastic squeeze bottles. Its texture is thinner than most Western commercial mayonnaise. A variety containing karashi (Japanese mustard) is also common.
Apart from salads, it is popular with dishes such as okonomiyaki, takoyaki and yakisoba and usually accompanies katsu and karaage. It is sometimes served with cooked vegetables, or mixed with soy sauce or wasabi and used as dips. In the Tōkai region, it is a frequent condiment on hiyashi chuka (cold noodle salad). Many fried seafood dishes are served with a side of mayonnaise for dipping. It is also not uncommon for Japanese to use mayonnaise in place of tomato sauce on pizza. ~wiki

No, that's some sort of peanut sauce. The yum yum sauce is the white stuff they pour in a dish for you at the habachi tables.
I bow down to your superior knowledge of recipes, and your superior grasp of the topic of discussion. What makes you think this is some sort of "peanut sauce"?
The sauce they pour in your disk isn't white either. Dumb A__
I'd like to find a recipe for the Yum Yum sauce at Asahi. That stuff is the bee's knees.

Remember, I made that? It's the same recipe that I have in my recipe box and I don't remember that part, but it is the same exact recipe. I remember the sauce was really good, though and it tasted like the Monterey's stuff, pretty much.
Another receipe to try again, perhaps this weekend?
Here is the recipe that they used at Guadalajara's in VA Beach (a favorite Mex restuarant from when we lived there) for the white dip served with chips.
