Interesting survey.....

Sept. 21, 2006 — Studies of resumes have found that people with black-sounding names are less likely to get callbacks.

"20/20" put 22 pairs of names to the test, posting identical resumes except for the names at the top.

I don't know why, but a certain scene from "Crash" just popped into my mind!

OK, am I the only one that thinks it's kind of racist segregating names into black and white??

I find it offensive that they consider Caitlin a WHITE name..

While on vacation, some black guy was standing at the end of the pool, hollering "Messiah, Messiah". Little boy came running up.

My kiddo's name is on the list... :ohwell:
I think though that it's only because people would relate her name to the color black or to the actress.

I spent alot of time choosing names for my kids..They had to have flow and meaning.

It's not like I sneezed a name out in the delivery room.

I read the lists.

White boy and girl names did sound very white indeed.

But the lists that were supposedly "black" names... What a load. There were a couple names on each list that had black flava to them - like Jamal or DaShawn - but mostly they were just generic names.

Like Terrance. Gimme a break. That name sounds Canadian if anything. And Darius? With the exception of "Hootie", the name Darius is totally ethnic neutral. And Reginald, Willie, and Maurice? No effing way.

And most of the "black" girl names sound like names of 1990's Asian pr0nstars.

I'm surprised about some of those names being considered "black" or "white". I went to high school with a whitebread Susie Creamcheese named Jada. Known several Jasmines - all white. Willie - that's not ethnic at all.

The black people I know have names like Fred and Caren and Jolene.

I'm always suspicious of these racial "studies" because so many of them sound like pure :bs:

ToxickJr1 was almost named: WAAAAPFFT####-Snff.

I talked his mom out of it.

:roflmao:

My gramma can sneeze, cough, :gossip: and :gossip: all at the same time:faint:
She has a bunch of kids and only one had a weird name, EVONDA.

I named both of my kids after a Gaelic myth and a Bible reference. Both their first and middle names are a part of the other and both of them share a similar meaning in one or more cultures.

Names are important, even Shaniqua Kamikazi Jones has a certain power to it.
