It would seem that he's a convert, but I think he should be watched VERY closely.

Question. Do our Senators and Representatives that are of Jewish faith swear on the standard bible or do they use theirs? He should follow what they do.

Thats what I dont get....if you get sworn in on the Bible but aren't christian, isnt that the same as a christian swearing into oath on a dr. suess book? Who cares, its an oath. SHow me ANYWHERE in the bible or any religious holy book where it says

"Thou shalt not be swore into oath to the US government on the holy bible."

Until then, quit bein a dick and get over yourself.

:yeahthat:

The Bible holds no sacred signifigance whatsoever for a Muslim. Swearing him in with a Koran makes sense to me.

When I become President, I wonder what book I'll use for the swearing-in ceremony. Right now I'm leaning towards my leatherbound "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" collection....

So everyone else has to abide by the rules except Muslims? What a crock of ####. :bs:

Slowly but surely we will give in and give in and then one day we'll be laying in a puddle of our own blood with our throats slit wondering what happened.
God help us and the direction of this country. We are in serious trouble.

From the article:

But for all of American history, Jews elected to public office have taken their oath on the Bible, even though they do not believe in the New Testament, and the many secular elected officials have not believed in the Old Testament either. Yet those secular officials did not demand to take their oaths of office on, say, the collected works of Voltaire or on a volume of New York Times editorials, writings far more significant to some liberal members of Congress than the Bible. Nor has one Mormon official demanded to put his hand on the Book of Mormon. And it is hard to imagine a scientologist being allowed to take his oath of office on a copy of "Dianetics" by L. Ron Hubbard.

Unfortunately, I think this is the way its supposed to go - if I read Revelations correctly.

The rest of the world will find out what happened when O.J. writes his book explaining how he did it. I mean...how he would have done it, when he did it.

I think Page is a knucklehead and his article is totally vile.

Oaths by there very nature use a Holy book and the phrase "so help me God" to show a higher degree of commitment. To force a Muslim to put their hand on the Bible and take an oath would be no different from making a Christian place his hands on Chronicles of Zurg, and to utter the phrase "So help me Zurg" and expect it to give us a warm fuzzy.

How can an perceived higher degree of dedication be demonstrated when the person who is taking the oath does not believe in the deity or the book they are using to illustrate the higher degree of commitment?

This is just nit picky bullhockey. Semantics, false outrage and it demonstrates the lack of "tolerance" liberals climb up on and scream to their followers as examples of conservatives being thugs and racists.

The 3rd grade excuse that "Jews use the Bible and they don't believe in the NT" and "Atheists do it" is a bunch of bullshiat. Just because someone decides on their own to conform to keep from making waves is totally their decision and if anything to me shows a lack of morality.

As long as this congressman pleases his constituents and upholds the constitution who cares? Last time I checked no congressman who violated their oaths have not been struck down by a bolt of lightning from above.

I may be missing something, but what is the big deal if he uses a Koran rather than the Bible?

I don't see why it's a huge news story. Did he make it a big deal for the media attention or did the media over hype it?

And? He's not Christian (he may have been, but he's Muslim now). The sad thing is that theres outrage related to this.
There are other concerns about Ellison (like where his funding for his campaign came from) but this isnt anything, and yet more Fundamentalists trying to push an agenda.

From your Article

I don't agree with all the crap that the author was spouting but I do kinda agree with this :
First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture.

What exactly is "American culture" with regard to religion? Isn't it ironic that our forefathers came here initially to escape forced religion, the founding fathers purpously included in the constitution that the federal government cannot show favoritism to, or perscribe a particular religion, yet we want to force a congressman to use a Christian Bible he clearly does not follow to take an oath?
