We have lived in Lexington Park for almost 2 years now and have become accustomed to the rudeness of the general public and the horrible, uncaring customer service. There are a few exceptions on occasion, but for the most part, the majority of the public, drivers and customer service people are just plain rude.

Go on a visit to the upper midwest and you will feel REALLY uncomfortable because you're not used to the helpful and friendly disposition of other fellow humans :)

i had to go home a few weeks ago and when leaving wal mart the greeter said thanks so much for stopping by....i kind of stopped in my tracks and blankly looked at him like.."huh"?

It's bad when you do experience some friendly people or good customer service that you talk about it like you just saw Bigfoot...but that seems to be the case more and more often.

I can think of no reason for anyone to be on a cell phone while in a restaurant, store, etc. Unless it is a life-threatening emergency, I just find it very rude.

My husband and I were in the Walmart in PF a couple of weeks ago and there was this rather large woman who banged her cart into ours to get to some cupcakes that were on sale. Then as we were leaving, she almost hit us on Rt. 4 as we were making the u-turn to go north because she was reaching into the back seat to get to the cupcakes she bought. We pull into the PF McDonalds and there she is again, almost ran us over to get in front of us at the drive through and she was shoving cupcakes into her mouth. Obviously she was wasting away to nothing and had to eat, so I didn't say anything. But I wanted to :smack:

Was it Gilbert Grape's mom?

Here's one for you. Every now and then - in a fast food place, drive in window I will pay for the car behind me (if it's not too much money - I do ask first). It's kinda a random act of kindness thing. Anyhoo I paid for the two guys behind me - Wendy's Lexington Park, made a right on the way out headed down Great Mills to route 5. The car passed me a minute later and the guy driving had his window down, leaned out and gave me the finger.

Never have figured that one out.

I like to consider myself nice but...wow. I can't believe, that first you really do this and second that someone would actually say thank you with only one finger  No worries Dixie, the real biatch is our good friend Karma (you know, that thing we don't have on the forums anymore ) and I'm sure those two dillholes you were nice enough to pay for will meet it one day. Unfortunately, the nice karma you put out didn't quite get returned at that moment so here's some green for you :huggy:

I guess I don't look for it so I don't notice it much but I was at Wawa last week and a little hottie was in line 2 people in front of me gabbing on her phone and pushing her stuff down the line as we inched closer to the cashier. When it was her turn she shoved her stuff up and then got engrossed in her convo. After the cashier told her the total twice she starts digging in her purse one handed looking for the money all the while never missing a beat :blahblah: After she emptied half the contents of her purse on the counter she FINALLY got the change out and paid and pushed her crap off to the side. The guy in front of me who had been waiting patiently stuck his stuff up and I guess she felt crowded still :blahblah: doing the one handed gather of her stuff because she acted incredulous this guy might actually want to pay for his shiat and get going.

ABC liquor store has a sign that says :
We will not wait on you if you are on your cell phone.

Saw a woman in Lusby Food Lion last weekend, she was on her cell phone, wouldn't stop talking the whole time she put her cart load of stuff on the belt, then I said to my husband kind of loud, "people get so engrossed in their cell phone conversations they don't pay attention to the sign that says express, 15 items or less". She just loaded about 75 items on the belt and turned around and looked at me and said "I'm so sorry" and proceeded to put them back in her cart, I said "don't worry about it, you're just going to waste more of my time putting it back into the cart". Never once did she hang up her phone, even at her car putting her stuff in, she was yacking away. It must take her twice the time to do things as a normal person because she can only use one hand since the other is holding the phone. I'm sure she's really safe driving down the road too. :sarcasm: People like that just drive me crazy.

Just to give off the opposite perspective...
One day I was driving to take my father to the hospital... it was an emergency...and I was panicking and trying to hurry... I was driving/speeding up route 4... I couldn't get passed both the lanes as their was someone driving slow(er) on each lane. I flashed my lights to signal to the guy in front of me that I needed to go thru... he wouldn't let me pass for the world. I thought to myself...what an a$$hole... he has no clue what he is doing...
oh gawd, here we go again..

I had to do a doubletake for a minute. Jen lives in Indy now. I bet people are more rude there. I'll have to ask her to come back on and compare rudeness.

First of all Thank You and secondly I really do this and it's mostly a lot of fun.
It started one Christmas when I was leaving MD to go back to Savannah and I paid for the toll for the car behind me going over that bridge to Virginia (can't remember the name for some reason). My son was little, we had Christmas music on - it was freezing cold, snow flurries, it was just really nice. I could see the people behind me in the mirror and they just looked shocked. They passed me once we got off the bridge waving, big grins. Later my son and I stopped at some drive thru and I paid for the car behind me - car full of teenagers - same look on their faces - nice honk and a wave when they went by. I still do it - on occasions - when I'm down in the dumps (when I have the money) just to cheer myself up a little. I have stopped looking in the rear view mirror though since I got the finger.

I might have taken it wrong - maybe he was just saying you're number one. hmmmmmm

:yeahthat:

When I went to Montana last summer, it was quite a shock how friendly and helpful nearly everyone I met was. What a wake up call.
