We like to believe that we have more control over our lives and more control over the world than we actually do, especially when it comes to the unbelievable. It's natural to want to look for reasons to explain it, to believe that horrific events such as this could have been prevented somehow. We are far more scared of the alternative, which is that many times, nothing could have been done.
