Will Not Buying A New Car NOW Come Back.....

Having Fun!
Why would anyone say to a dealership, "I'll buy one of your cars if you pick me up and drive me to your office. That's ridiculous.

In this economy, I'd have been surprised if they turned you down! I've never gotten so many little "personal" little cards & notes form car salesmen I've dealt with in the past. Of course, water under the bridge now.

My 2002 Ford has 141,000 + on it & just put some major $ into it for the front end. I'd like a new car but real leery about financial stuff right now & don't want to take on the payments. I'll keep driving it with my fingers crossed & the number of a towing company in my cell phone (not to mention all my male family members! :killingme) It's really a good car & I like it.

Why not? If you want to buy a car and they want to sell one it seems like a salesman might be willing to drive a few miles to close the sale and cinch a comission.
.. especially if you've been in the dealership and arranged it prior to the final sale.

I'll bet if you said, "Bring the car to me and I'll buy it", he would probably have done that, and found his own way home.

But if you were unable to to ask him for a ride, or unable to find a friend to drive you, then you probably didn't need the car anyway. You're just not that interested.

It's not so ridiculous. My fiance's work (auto repair shop) will drop customers off at home and pick them up if they need a ride.

Lots of dealerships will deliver your ride if you've committed to buying from them (depending on the distance). Friend of mine got his Saturn delivered from Waldorf. They do love to make a sale.

Hell yes, you haul my azz 50 miles from home so I can buy a car, I'll be real hesitant about backing out if that's my only way home

Guess not.

BUT.....it also gave me a minute to rationalize. 'Do I REALLY need to make 400-something dollar payments every month; can I afford that every month?'

Well, if I can keep what I'm driving now running until maybe NEXT January I might have a couple more bucks to spend and I might get hold of an '09 something. I'm in a hurry but I'm NOT in a hurry to get a new car. Now that Obama has taken the reigns, let's see where the economy goes. There's THAT factor also.....

Yeah, but that's a body shop, not a dealership. The whole point is moot anyway. I wound up NOT buying anything from anywhere. I'll just hope my '97 keeps running along until NEXT Dec or Jan.

 My point was, if an automotive repair shop (not body shop) will do that to make a few hundred bucks, I wonder what a dealership would do to make thousands.

Good luck with your car. Just keep up on routine maintenance!

Well, the dealership was in Tapahannock (sp?) VA. I don't know if he would have come up to Piney Point to make a sale. Ah well, I'll never know.

Thanks. Actually there's nothing wrong with my '97 Chrysler. It just needs a bolt, a couple tires in a few months; routine maintenance-type stuff for the most part. Keep the synthetic oil level up where it needs to be and gas in the tank an that thing runs like a raped ape.

Where do you go car shopping. The last few used Honda/Toyotas I've looked at were only a couple thousand below what a new one was.

The big advantage of buying a new car is lower interest rates (usually) and you don't have to worry what the previous owner may have or have not done to it.

That's why you always look outside of the SOMD area. We have bought our last several cars by looking at every dealership within about 75mi. that has the type of car we want. We ended up getting our last one at Leesburg Honda (a 2006 bought in 2008, so 2yrs. old w/ 23K mi. on it) for about 18K. New ones were about 28K (EX-L). It still had the balance of the factory warranty + was Honda certified so it has an additional year warranty added on to that. So am I worried about anything going wrong -- not really. It is a bit of a PITA having to drive that far to get the car I will admit, but the dealers in this area just do not deal the way the ones in No. Va and other areas do, so I will go there to save the kind of money that you can at their dealerships.

<<< got a good deal with the "employee pricing" sale. Got mine because it's what I have been wanting for a long time! I work hard, don't waste my money.... and life is too short!

I researched dealers, saved up a good down payment... and found the best deal.

I also went for the lower end model of what I wanted- meaning no heated seats, leather or gps.

We got a have a written offer for a brand new 2008 that was listed at 24k for 16k. So we are going to take it to some other dealers so we can try to get a better offer. I'm going to PA over the weekend the one dealership has an offer if they can't beat another dealerships offer they will give 5k as a down payment ( which is reflected in the price I'm sure ). So hopefully with our gm points we will probably get the car for 10k.
