Windows Vista %!@#$!@#%$#@

I have a Toshiba with Vista (got it about a 9 months ago) and haven't had any trouble. Keep reading everyone's problems but so far, I guess I've been lucky! I did convert from dial-up to broadband though, so maybe that's why I haven't noticed any slowness?

I use cable w/wireless. My signal is good, so I don't think that's what it is. I would be going crazy with dial-up..I love my wireless!

A drive is a drive. It's either SATA or PATA (IDE). If the target PC uses the same interface as the drive you have, it will work fine. Just re-partition it and reformat it.

Cool! I have a 100GB hard drive up for grabs if anyone is interested. It is a SATA drive. Works fine is only a few months old, I just upgraded to a much larger drive. PM me if interested!

I tried to do a system restore and it will not allow me to. :tantrum:banghead:

The laptop was fast had no problems until about a week ago. My vz access wouldn't work. So I guess I'll just have to wipe it and start from the beginning. Anyone up for a beer ?

I wonder if it my be VZ access? I have XP and when I use my vz access for extended periods of time, it tends to really jack up the speed of my machine, not to mention that I always seem to need a reboot because VZ access is not responding, or it doesn't shut down properly. If you close my laptop with VZ Access running, I always have to reboot, it just hoses up.

Anyone else have a laptop with vista? My laptop has been nothing but problems. Do you think it's worth it just to wipe it and start all over ? I don't have any viruses or trojan horses. My laptop is extremely slow and I don't know what else to do , It's a gateway if that helps..
I bought a new laptop a few months ago with Vista. STarted a thread complaining about it. I've pretty much become used to it now. It does have a learning feature and I have no speed problems.

That's what I've got now too. Cable with a wireless router. Again, no problems (knocking wood really hard!!).

I have this low budget computer and it came with Vista, certainly took some getting used to when coming from XP, but, I can tell you this, the features that are found in Vista are quite awesome. It's just a matter of figuring out what it can do, and that's quite a bit. BUT, there are some things that drives me nuts, but, for what I use it for, I have no issues with it at all.

I just got a mid range Dell with 2gb memory running Vista. Seems fine.

Can you tell me what about it you don't like? So far I don't like The new MS office because it won't open documents done on older versions, but that's all so far.

Well I ended up wiping the memory off the laptop and reinstall everything. So downloaded all the things I had before and it works awesome. I also downloaded avg antivirus and spam ware. So hopefully it will help.

I have Vista and it's fine for me. Faster than my xp laptop from the start. I suspect that you might need to install a registry mechanic program and run that. Google Registry Mechanic and d/l it and run it and see what it finds. In order to get it to fix all your registry problems, you'll have to pay for it. I pay 19.99 a year for it, but it works magic when something is messed up and slowing me down. I run it along with the reg. maintinance stuff, like disk cleanup, defrag, windows defender, etc. You might need to defrag too. Do the "oil change" stuff and if that doesn't work, consider downloading Registry Mechanic and see if that helps. Also, in case you don't do it regularly, shut down completely regularly and that alone can fix alot. Good luck.

you might also consider running an adaware type program and a antivirus program in safe mode to see if something shows that way. could be hiding behind stuff in reg. mode.

Another thought... are you running an antivirus program other than what was installed on your laptop? if so, it's probably not getting along with the McAfee or Norton that was installed. Both don't get along well with other programs. I run AVG Free and before installing it, made sure to delete all Norton files that were on my laptop first! Very important.

Avast or AVG are the only two antivirus programs that I'd advise. Both are free. they'll catch more viruses than either McAfee or Norton, so don't worry about that. That alone will quicken up your computer.

Everything. The new start menu, the new Control Panel, the new welcome screen, the new security management, the new display properties thing, the new cursors, the new icons, the chitty Aero graphics, the idiotic gadgets, it's slow, it's quirky, it doesn't work with my TV Tuner, it's slow, etc, etc.
