Leaving a job behind and becoming a full-time mom and housewife is scary. In making that decision you need to sit down and figure out how much you actually save by staying at home. I worked outside of the home for a little over a year. After we figured out how much it cost me to work (car insurance went down with mileage, gas, co-worker gifts, clothing, meals out, and daycare), it made more sense for me to stay at home. The other money saving factor is that I had more time to prepare a meal instead of grabbing take-outs.
I have done typing and desktop publishing from home. People who are working on their Masters or Doctorate often need a typist. You could also check with contractors in town. When large projects are needed, it makes more sense for them to contract it out instead of going through the hassle of hiring a part-time temporary.
I've dabbled a few times with being involved in an "at-home" business that was advertised in a newspaper or on the internet, you do need to proceed with caution.
I am currently a distributor for a company and have found it to be a lot more fun than I thought. If you did decide to go that route it is advisable not to get involved in a company that requires you to buy a certain amount a month or to be a "pushy" recruiter. The key is to do something where you have total control, not the company.
The first month of being at home can be a trying experience. If you are working from home, you need to remind the family that they still need to pitch in with the chores because you are still working. You will find a way that will work for the entire family. It's a great feeling to be at home and earning money. I love the days that the washer and dryer are going, dishwasher is running, dinner is in the crockpot, and I'm earning money! You will also be able to schedule your time so that you can attend school events and do your "at-home" work at another time.
You may want to check with CSM, too. I believe they have a program where you can get a Letter of Certificate (not sure if that's what it's called) that can give you more avenues to consider.
I hope all of this makes sense. Best of luck!
