Would like to help local family

I am interested in helping a local family in need this year for the holidays. I've been on the receiving end of generosity as a child and wanted to return the favor to somebody else now that I am fortunate enough to do so. Does anybody know of an organization or group that helps connect families in need? I was hoping to help a family with children to possibly help give them a better Christmas. Our church is doing the angel tree and I have contributed to that, but would like to do more.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Nothing to see here
I have seen a few familys request items from the wanted classifieds. Do not know if it is a ploy or a serious need. I like to help out families as well when I know what the need is and the receiver is thankful.

The Optimist Clubs normally doing something at Christmas for families, as with Moose, Lions, clubs etc. Or contact the local Social Services for needy families. Of course there is the Childrens Hospitals are always welcoming donations and the Toys for Tots.

....
Community Services 301-475-4200 ext. 1851. They have lists and wish lists of in need local families with children for Christmas. Just call them and give them a round about number of how many kids you'd like to help and they can fax you over a few options for you choose from.

Thanks for thinking about others locally-a thought-consider helping the elderly and our veterans as well. I send sweaters (new and nearly new) I collect, to our local VA hospital. There are several assisted living residences locally I try to donate to also.

Help local family

You can also go to the St. Mary's Nursing Center. They have a tree where you can select a name and purchase items needed by an elderly person.

My Cub Scout Pack is sponsoring a family this Christmas. They are in DIRE need of everything. We are collecting cash donations and then pooling the money to buy the gifts and gift cards to Food Lion. If you (or anyone else) would be interested in helping this family, let me know.

You can call Catholic Community Services at 410-535-0090 - they have more clients in need that they are able to assist.
