But wait, there's more...
Anyone out there have the XM Myfi? I'm not interested in the other models. I'm thinking about getting this one for its versatility/mobility, but I'm curious about how it is used with your existing home entertainment system/stereo.

Do you all listen to the radio a lot? Because I catch a few minutes of it on my 1 mile drive to work, but typically we listen to CDs in the car.

Yea, when doing stuff around the house, outside, at the office, in the car (or bus, during my hour-plus commute :dead:), weekend trips, etc. I get bored listening to CDs unless they're ones I've "backed up" myself b/c they usually only have 2 songs I like. I'm digging the 'on-demand' variety that XM offers, as well as the Nascar stations they have. :yay:

This particular model is cool b/c it goes from house to car to office to bus to where ever. I just want to make sure it doesn't require anything else to connect it to the home set-up I have already. The skyfi2 (the only other semi-mobile model) requires the purchase of a boom box by XM to use it indoors. :ohwell:

What is the Myfi? Is it portable? I've got the XM in the car and am sold on it and would like to have one account that I could tote around.

I love my XM; listen to it all the time. I was a big CD person too, but my CD player is toast. My DH has been looking into this, mainly because you just tune any radio and you are connected. The one good thing about XM is that it is radio without censorship.

I got the MyFI for Christmas and I love it! It's awesome. It comes with everything you need to hook it up to the car, house and on the go. It's real easy to hook up. for the house, it comes with a nice docking station. The dock has an antennae with 20 foot of cabe, and RCA jacks that connect rightr to the home stereo system. It offers 3 different mounting options for the car and an auto antennae with 20 feet of cable. The FM modulator works great. It even comes with an antennae that can clip onto your sleeve when using it on the go. I have never had to use the external clip on antennae. I lay in bed at night and listen to it as I would any other portable radio. It even comes with a really nice and easy to use remote control. The hard drive for 5 hours of recording comes in handy, since I work in a basement office and can't get a signal. I can't say enough good things about the MyFI! It really is a beautiful piece of equipment. If you have any specific questions about it, feel free to PM me.

This is your captain!
You don't need a boombox to use the SkyFi indoors, but you would need a home kit which will let you hook it to a stereo, or computer speakers or headphones if you want. That's what I do - use it in the car, even for short trips, and bring it inside and pop it in the dock and listen to it through the stereo.
The MyFi has all the connecting gear in the box.
I was toying with getting a MyFi when I heard about them, but it seems too expensive unless you planning on using it as an iPod-like thing at the gym, on the train, etc. Even then, you can't really use it indoors live (unless it has recorded music beforehand - not sure of the details there, but it holds the past 5 hours of music programming in the unit - not every channel though).

I use mine indoors all the time with the live feed. Granted I am upstairs, but nonetheless I still get a full 3 bars while laying in bed and listening.

XM has it for around $350, but I'm eyeing it on ebay for around $289. Thanks much, BS, for the info! :yay::yay:

:yeahthat:  AMEN! Dale Jr. can say "sh!t" and not get in trouble! :lmao:

Anyone ever listen to the Nascar channels? Someone told me they're gonna have in-car audio on it as well, which is another reason I'm interested ... I was toying with getting Trackpass this next race season, but this would be a better b/c I could get more bang for my buck. :yay:

I love XM, because I like to listen to the music that's out without all the commercials like on radio.

3's ????
I tried trackpass CC, Was'nt worth the $13.00 to me. You can't hear all the cars and the drivers can switch channels. I'd hear in car audio from the TV I never heard on TP. Also, it is 1/4 lap behind realtime. Thats sux! I found I'd be so into the TV that I didn't really listen to the Comp. anyway. They always offer free trials so try that first.

I have listened to the incar on XM. It is not very good. It is garbled, then a computer voice will say "Car 8" then you get a snipet, then gabled "Car 14" and a snipped.

Just got back from Best Buy. The one I'm going to get is the skyfi that doesn't have the real portable feature but it goes in car or home. After I get the car kit added it will be about the same as the myfi. $349. I just paid the $119 for a year so I'll call XM and see if they can work something out. Music  can get expensive.

Am I reading it right, does it have a built in antennea, and an external one you could clip on your shirt sleeve?
