Am I reading it right, does it have a built in antennea, and an external one you could clip on your shirt sleeve?

You are correct sir. They thought of every possible scenario for using the system, when designing the package contents.

I'm digging the 'on-demand' variety that XM offers, as well as the Nascar stations they have. :yay:

Beware if you are thinking about getting XM because of NASCAR. XM has NASCAR through the 2006 season. Sirius just bought the rights for 2007-2012.

Thanks for letting me know; that was a big reason I was considering it. :ohwell: I'm happy listening to regular radio otherwise.

This is an interesting thread. I almost bought MyFi for DH's Christmas gift. But it had just come out, prices were high, and Oz almost had me convinced to go with Sirius instead of XM. Another month will be DH's birthday and I began looking at MyFi and Sirius again. The prices for MyFi are not much better now and Sirius is coming out with their own version of portable satellite radio this fall. I think I'm going to keep sitting on the fence and watch.

I am assuming that you are referring to the Xact REGO for Sirius. That unit is hardly portable out of the box. Out of the box, it is just a standard satellite radio. To make it portable you have to purchase the battery seperate (whih will nearly double the thickness and weight), you have to purchase the special headphones seperately ( as the mobile unamplified antennae is built into them), and after you purchase all of the necessary accessories to make it portable, the price has nearly doubled to almost $400. The MyFI comes with everything you will need, and then some. MyFI prices are rapidly dropping, and are now under $300. As a MyFI owner, I can't say enough about the quality of this piece of equipment. XM rocks! Sirius is about 1-2 years behind XM's technology. :peace:

I don't think I'm talking about the Xact REGO (but I'll be the first to admit I haven't been comparing XM with Sirius very diligently). The Xact is out now and it's not really portable. Whatever Sirius is developing won't be out until just before Christmas 2005. An official announcement came out in Forbes this month but there were rumors about it for the past couple months.

I spent several months doing comparisons of hardware and service. In the end, I decided XM was the best for me, in both hardware and service. :peace:

Okay, I might be sold on MyFi.

Yeah, you can buy Sirius for him next year when he's tired of listening to the same old thing on XM...

You're kidding, right? Sirius is widely known for their shallow, repetitive playlists. Xm has deep playlists. I have discovered so much new music from my favorite artists, songs that i never knew existed. XM ROCKS! :peace:

If you read the Sirius message boards (siriusbackstage.com,) there are plenty of complaints about the playlists on XM. I imagine they go both ways, which musically makes them equals in my book. I listen to a lot of talk radio, so music isn't as critical. Sirius is definitely building the better library of program content, with NASCAR and Howard Stern.

If you're really into music, I would suggest an iPod and iTunes...

I was glad to see Nascar leave. Racing is boring enough as it is, but then to take away the visual and just listen....yikes!! As far as Stern, he was interesting 10 years ago, but now he is just a dirty old man oggling girls the same age as his daughter. I think Opie and Antony are definitely fresher and edgier than Stern is these days. I was a big fan of theirs when they were on WJFK and I am glad to have them back. I was going to get an Ipod unitil I got XM. I see no need for it now. why carry around something that you may have stored songs on that you may want to hear that day, when you can listen to XM and always find something you want to hear? :peace:

XM today announced a price increase to $12.95/month, although they also give every subscriber "free" access to Opie and Anthony and also to the XM Online feature. Additional Family Plan prices remain unchanged at $6.99/month.

This doesn't affect me negatively, as I was already paying for O&A. And now i can listen online for free, bonus. :peace:

Yea, same with me, although I think the timing here might be bad on Xm's part. I got XM about two years ago, then added Sirius last year after they signed the deal with approx. 25 major schools for college sports broadcasts (GEAUX LSU). Also enjoy having the NFL as most Sundays I'm driving back to Philly from my farm in Nanjemoy. Now the subscription price for both services is the same, Sirius is now loaded with the sports programming, and they're getting Stern in January. If I was choosing now between XM and Sirius, it would be a no-brainer for me to go with Sirius. I just think XM should have kept their pricing down below Sirius for another year or two longer. As an investor in both, though, today has been a pretty good day!!

Saw an Xact system over the weekend, got me thinking about this again. Xact Stream Jockey portable with car adapter and boom box for $179. Found out that probably nothing will work inside the hanger where I want to listen to anything but the 1 station I now get. I'm now listening to Sirius online (3 day free trial) while sitting at my computer  Now I've found a Kenwood model with auto and home adapter for $25 after rebate, and the internet connection is included. :yay:

Bought the Kenwood system, haven't got it yet but have been listening online :yay: Glad I subscribed, just that feature has been worth it so far.

I use mine indoors all the time with the live feed. Granted I am upstairs, but nonetheless I still get a full 3 bars while laying in bed and listening.

I've been toying with the idea for my home. Currently I sometimes get one whole station, on a good day, if I'm in the mood for country. Other than the initial cost, what is the monthly charge?

$12.95 a month. But they have several plans available, yearly, 2 year etc. Go here to check it out. You can sign up for 3 days online free to sample the selection.
